I have shipped many small things to Europe, including Italy.

It's very cheap IF your package is small and light.
A letter is probably less than a buck.

A 2 ounce package to italy only costs $1.80.
A 3 ounce package i believe is $2.70.
This is for 1st class International which takes about a week.
Very reasonable.
BUT - as the weight increases, the cost starts to increase quickly. A 4 pound package might cost you 25 bucks or so.
You can check the prices easily on www.usps.com
Pick "calculate postage", then select "calculate international postage" and put in the country and the estimated weight.

There is a lot of information you have to consider first before getting a proper answer to this. You'll need to know:

How are you mailing this? UPS, Fedex, Airmail/International, DHL, etc.
What does the package/envelope weigh?
What are the dimensions of the envelope/package?

You'll need to include those figures.

Take care.
