Original recipe yield: 24 rolls
INGREDIENTS
* 1 cup milk
* 1 cup water
* 1/4 cup butter
* 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
* 6 cups all-purpose flour
* 1 1/2 tablespoons active dry yeast
* 1/2 cup white sugar
* 2 eggs
*
* 1/3 cup butter, softened
* 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
* 3/4 cup white sugar
* 3/4 cup raisins (optional)
* 3/4 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
* 2 cups confectioners' sugar
* 3 tablespoons butter, melted
* 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
* 3 tablespoons milk
DIRECTIONS
1. In saucepan, heat 1 cup milk, water, and 1/4 cup butter until very warm (butter doesn't need to be completely melted). Place milk mixture, salt, flour, yeast, sugar, and eggs in the pan of the bread machine in the order suggested by the manufacturer. Select the Dough cycle. Press Start.
2. Once Dough cycle is complete, remove the dough from the bread machine. Punch down, and divide into 2 parts. On a floured surface, roll each part into a large rectangle. Smear each rectangle with the softened butter. Combine the cinnamon and 3/4 cup sugar. Sprinkle over the rectangles. Generously sprinkle the raisins and/or chopped nuts over the top.
3. Roll the dough up into two logs starting at the long side. Cut each log into 12 slices. Place the rolls cut side down into two 9x13 inch greased baking pans. Cover, and let rise in a warm place until almost doubled (about 30 minutes).
4. Bake in a preheated 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) oven for 20 to 25 minutes, or until golden. Combine the confectioners' sugar, 3 tablespoons melted butter, vanilla, and 3 tablespoons milk. Frosting should be thick. Spread over baked rolls and enjoy.

My oh my, a beginner cook. I too asked the same question years (yes years) ago when I started cooking. I had an ole sage cook that told me "it is not the recipe but the cook" that makes a good meal. My feelings were hurt but I soon realized what he was telling me. You will do many recipes wrong and get many laughs at you by people (yes even those who love you most). Then one day you will look at a recipe and think back to all the mistakes you made and it will finally dawn on you that there was nothing wrong with the recipe, it was the cook! Once you learn that, you will find that your experience in making cinnamon rolls will shine shine shine. Then people will come over and say "give me the recipe I want to do it". Then remember to answer "it is not the recipe but the cook" that makes the cinnamon rolls. God Bless you and don't give up. That apron is something you EARN. Go on Google.com and enter "recipe" and you will be given thousands of sites that have recipes for just amount anything you want, including pastry. Cooks.com, etc.

Cinnabon clone recipe.
note: you don't need a bread machine, but it does make it easier.
1 cup warm milk (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
2 eggs, room temperature
1/3 cup margarine, melted
4 1/2 cups bread flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup white sugar
2 1/2 teaspoons bread machine yeast
1 cup brown sugar, packed
2 1/2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
1/3 cup butter, softened
1 (3 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/8 teaspoon salt
DIRECTIONS
Place ingredients in the pan of the bread machine in the order recommended by the manufacturer. Select dough cycle; press Start.
After the dough has doubled in size turn it out onto a lightly floured surface, cover and let rest for 10 minutes. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar and cinnamon.
Roll dough into a 16x21 inch rectangle. Spread dough with 1/3 cup butter and sprinkle evenly with sugar/cinnamon mixture. Roll up dough and cut into 12 rolls. Place rolls in a lightly greased 9x13 inch baking pan. Cover and let rise until nearly doubled, about 30 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
Bake rolls in preheated oven until golden brown, about 15 minutes. While rolls are baking, beat together cream cheese, 1/4 cup butter, confectioners' sugar, vanilla extract and salt. Spread frosting on warm rolls before serving

*CINNAMON BREAKFAST ROLLS
24 frozen dinner rolls
1 (3 oz.) pkg. regular butterscotch pudding
3/4 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. butter
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 c. chopped nuts
Grease Bundt pan; arrange rolls in pan. Sprinkle pudding mix (dry) over rolls. Cook butter, sugar and cinnamon until it comes to a boil; add nuts. Pour over rolls, cover with foil and let stand to raise overnight. Bake at 350 degrees, uncovered for 25 to 30 minutes. Let stand 5 minutes, then invert pan onto serving dish.
*HOMEMADE CINNAMON ROLLS
1 pkg. dry yeast
1/3 c. sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. salt
2 c. milk
4 tbsp. butter
5-6 c. flour
1 stick butter
Sugar and cinnamon
1/2 c. pancake syrup
1/2 c. butter
1 c. water
1 c. brown sugar
Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water. Scald milk (bring to a boil, stirring constantly). Add 4 tablespoons butter to the milk. Remove and allow the milk to cool. (I sometimes stick the milk in the refrigerator for a short time to speedup the process.) Add the milk/butter mixture to the yeast mixture. Add about 5-6 cups flour. You don't want your dough to be sticky, so you add flour until it can be kneaded easily.
After kneading until smooth, roll into a ball. Let rise for about 2 hours. Roll out flat - about 1/2 inch thick. Soften stick of butter and spread evenly across the flattened dough. Sprinkle heavily with sugar and cinnamon.
Roll up the dough in a long tube-like manner. Cut 1 1/2 to 2-inch sections of the long tube. You should see the design of a cinnamon roll at this point. In a saucepan, mix the syrup, butter, water and brown sugar. Boil for about 3 minutes, stirring.
Pour this mixture into the pan that you are using to bake the rolls in. You may sprinkle nuts on top of the syrup mixture (optional). Then place the rolls on top. Bake for about 1/2 hour at 350 degrees.
When they are golden brown, remove from the oven. After about 5 minutes of cooling, flip the rolls over onto a cookie sheet. The "goop" will be on top of the rolls now.
*EASY CINNAMON ROLLS
1 pkg. of 8 Pillsbury Crescent Rolls
Cinnamon
Sugar
Unroll dough; separate into 8 triangles. Sprinkle each triangle with cinnamon and sugar (amount to taste). Roll loosely from shortest side of triangle to opposite point. Place rolls point side down, on ungreased cookie sheet. Curve into crescent shape. Bake at 375 degrees for 11 to 13 minutes or until golden brown.
*QUICK HOMEMADE CINNAMON ROLLS
1 pkg. frozen rolls (in ball)
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 c. sugar
2 1/2 tbsp. cinnamon
Chopped pecans
1 1/2 sticks butter
1/2 pt. whipping cream
Mix sugar and cinnamon. Melt 1 1/2 sticks butter. Dip each frozen roll into the butter and then roll in the mixture. Stack in pan (angel food cake pan is all right, but not quite big enough); sprinkle pecans over and allow to rise overnight with towel over top.
Before putting into oven, mix all remaining cinnamon-sugar mixture with 1/2 pint whipping cream and pour over rolls (do not whip cream). Bake at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes. Turn out upside down.
*Hope one of these helps! =]
