I lost 5 pounds in cross country and i want to gain 15 pounds. I used to be 5'3" and 110 pounds but now I'm 5'4" and barely 105 pounds. (I'm a freshman) People think i look anorexic and a guy said I look like a toothpick. This whole "curves are in" thing doesnt help at all either and neither does the fact that I have a big nose! I'm also looking for tricks to disguise that. Maybe gaining weight will help.

I eat about 5000 calories a day so I dont know whats wrong. Right now I do swimming. I think I wanna lift weights to gain weight but I need a good plan...

I know exactly what you're talking about. I'm 5'4" and usually weigh about 110-112. I look fine at that weight but if I lose 5 pounds I look sick. So if I train for something and burn a lot of calories, or go through an emotional time when I can't eat, I end up needing to gain weight.

First of all forget whoever chided you for eating 5000 calories a day. If you're an athlete it is easy to eat that much and still lose weight.

As far as how to gain . . . there are two ways to do it, basically the right way and the wrong way. The right way is to eat a lot of whole-grain breads, cheese, nuts, etc. This works and it really is the best thing to do if you want to fuel your body correctly for your workouts, even though it does take a bit of effort. In addition, you are right that lifting weights will increase your muscle mass. It's also a great addition to your running and swimming and may make you faster!

The wrong way is . . . McDonald's. It works and it's easy but too high in fat. That said, I have used the McDonald's method during times when I lose my appetite (this happens if I am under a lot of stress).

Meanwhile be careful not to wear your clothes too big. They really look funny flapping all over the place.

First dont go listenting to the ppl that just said go pig out on Junkfood, thats the bad way to gain a few pounds and could lead to more serious issuses for you later. I would talk to a health care professional on what eating habits would give you the most benefit to gaining. Follow what the doctor advises and you should see results in a month or 2. But this is a first of seeing someone say I want to Gain not lose. good luck though

Time for a checkup. You sound like you are in great health, but wouldn't hurt to make sure nothing is amiss and you can get a referral to a nutritionist that can help you put on some weight without compromising your health.

As for disguising your "big nose", ask your friends for referrals to a good beauty salon that has a makeup artist, or look through your phone book, and go in for a consultation. There are lots of hair and makeup tricks that detract from areas we want to be less conspicuous.

GAIN weight for yourself. Dont consider others opinions. I have to say, I am happy to see this question not only because Im in the same situation but because its nice to know that you're pushing away from the norm and whats considered beautiful according to the media. Way to go!

For me, its genetic. My mom has 5 kids and shes still smaller than me. I just keep on eating. I want the weight to go to my arms and legs but it goes to my stomach I weighed
125-130 before I had my son. After I had him, I weighed 108. Most people are suppose to gain weight. Everyone else I know did so I was like what! lol Anyhow, you sound like
you're right on track. You know what you're doing. Eat whatever you want and lift weights. You will eventually notice a difference.

When I was 17 and 6'8", I weighed 150 and ate at least 5k calories a day. Dad's doctor put me on a weight lifting, rope jumping and swimming regimen. In three months, I gained 50 lbs.
Friends of mine have had the same problem and the above regimen did not help.

You should see a dietician to figure out a good calorie range and a trainer to find a sport/activity that will help you build a little muscle and not cause you to waste away (like cross country). You don't necessarily need to eat more, just differently. And don't do it by eating a bunch of junk because you don't want you tastebuds to crave only junk!

Provided you have no health problems you should see a personal trainer. You want to increase your muscle mass by using a good training program but not keep adding fat through bad eating habits. A lifestyle change is required by healthy eating and regular exercise including both cardio and resistance training.

Proteins are required for building muscles, so having high protein foods like eggs, milk, peanut butter, protein shakes will help you in gaining weight. If you are a very active person, you should learn to relax, which will slow down your metabolic rate.

Get a job so that you don't overexercise. Then you can save money for a good nose job. That's not meant to be rude. You're talking about your big nose so it bothers you. Good luck.
