Desiderata - long, I know, but I love it.

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.

it's long but i love it...

"Life is here and it is now...either we meet it, we live it, or we miss it. All life resides in the narrow margin and the broad expanse of the moment. It is in the doing, the dreaming, the feeling, and the caring. It is always present in a glorious attempt, a lofty dream, a brilliant insight, an irreplaceable experience, a calming breath, an unbelievable feeling and an irrepressible passion.

An unlived life is littered with the could haves, should haves, and if onlys. Each moment greets us full of possibility and leaves us hoping we are better for having met. While it is true that we only have right now, there will never be a time when it's not now. Grandma Moses said it best, 'Life is what we make it, always has been and always will be.' "

im doing a quote project right now! mine is:

Math is the foundation of life. It is the form of communication that everyone living on the Earth understands even if we have different dialects. Have you ever noticed, almost everything we do or think is related to math in some way, even something as random as “cheese” has mathematical prospect to it. How many ways can you divide up a wheel of cheese? How many words per minute can you read? What is the average number of letters in a word? We cannot live without mathematics.
In the same way, Galileo Galilei, and important Italian astronomer and physicist that contributed greatly to our scientific knowledge today, stated something as true as we are alive. He announced to all of mankind:

“Mathematics is the language in which God has written the universe.”

This short but powerful line drove me to look at everyday objects mathematically in hopes of understanding the simple component that makes things what they are.
Galileo’s message also increased my love for math and the wonders it performs to help human kind reach their goals and make new inventions.
From this quote, I opened my mind to more than just the surface of objects but the exquisite structure of them and was impelled to excel in mathematics.

I love this quote by Audrey Hepburn: “For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.”

“Most people are like a falling leaf that drifts and turns in the air, flutters, and falls to the ground. But a few others are like stars which travel one defined path: no wind reaches them, they have within themselves their guide and path.”
~Hermann Hesse

“I prefer to be true to myself, even at the hazard of incurring the ridicule of others, rather than to be false, and to incur my own abhorrence.”

A woman, angry with Winston Churchill over something, he said at a large banquet, commented angrily, "Sir, if I were your wife, I would put poison in your tea" to which Mr. Churchill replied, "Madam, if I were your husband, I would drink it." [rimshot].

Seriously, though:

"If the human brain were simple enough for us to understand, we would be too simple to understand it"

One that I heard recently and like very well is from Nobel prize winning physicist Steven Weinberg, and says this about religion:

"Without it you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion."

(My apologies to the faithful - no offense intended - but this rings true to me)

1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Love
4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
