If you answer yes, of course, that would be truly understandable- however He knew that He was coming for this sole purpose- think about the time in the garden when He was asking God to remove the cross from Him, and He was crying and hurting so much he sweat drops of blood- I think the hardest time for Him, when He was fighting in the garden and once He submitted Himself to God's will then He was ready to suffer the excruciating pain He endured for us,. Please do not say I am negating the cross and how hard that was for Jesus- because I am not- tell me what you think. Wanting serious answers from those who believe

so God said - God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son - was just to make it appear that He died- sorry- you are living in complete denial, - you are not accountable to me though.
The mental anguish must have been horrible. Jesus could have saved Himself, remember, but He chose not too.

ok, maybe the words sole purpose was wrong, however what I meant to say, everything He did while on the earth lead up to the salvation that we have in Him- through His shed blood. Sorry about the wording

thanks Pastor Art for the painful description of the crucifixion- I know it is one of, if not, the most horrible pain to endure- even though I have never experienced it- mentally though Jesus had to be struggling in the garden in order to sweat blood.

another reason I think that it was so hard for Him, the crucifixion would mean separation from His Father, due to the fact that God cannot look at sin, and He became sin for us on the cross.

Yes. As you wrote, the evidence of his difficulty was his great stress in the garden, praying earnestly that God would save him from the coming torture and death.

Though the Bible presents Christ crying and distressed at various times in his ministry, never had he been as stressed as just before the Passion.

Considering the type of his sacrifice was Abraham sacrificing Isaac, and God spared Isaac and substituted a ram, maybe Jesus was hoping for a similar substitution; for he said, "If it is possible..."

However, it is misleading that you write that this was his "sole purpose" for coming to earth. He had a long list of things that he was to accomplish while in the flesh -- and he did accomplish them all.

Of course it was an awful time of agony for Him, both physical and spiritual, but you're right in that it might not have been His worse suffering while He was on earth.

Some Christians say that Jesus's suffering on the cross was unprecedented, but we know that's not true. Crucifixion was invented in China centuries before Jesus was born, and millions of people were murdered that way.

What makes Jesus's suffering agony redemptive is more than just the obvious horror He endured while on the cross. We don't know what other kinds of mental, physical, or spiritual suffering Jesus might have survived while alive and grappling with sin and temptation just like you and I do every day.

separation from the father ,, is very good ,, very very good . some don"t understand the meaning of the word hell it simply meant the grave in hebrew , and when a person dies their thoughts perish this is found in psalms 146;3,4 ;its the opposite of life . think about it; u could always cross reference this with psams 6 v 5; their be no rememberance in death, psalms 88;10-12 the grave is called the land of forgetfullness ;;i dont want to bore anyone with the 40 to 50 odd passages that tells us more about death , few would listen anyway! in the garden of gethsemene is when the separation from HIS father BEGAN he had already started their to bear the fruit of our sin its recorded that he was sweating great drops of blood in the garden in luke now being a doctor luke knew the impications of what this meant too.
I CANT recall all i read about that term but it seems to me his bolod would have to be coming through HIS sweat glands then .. as i said im not adoctor just commenting here i seen though some nurses that may know more .. i may just ask that myself hmmm ! mj

Garden was where the Savior took upon himself our sins. The cross was as painful a torture as could be devised.

I find that his hardest time was the death of Lazarus. He was much more pained for his friend than for himself.

John 11:32 Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
33 When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled,
34 And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see.
35 Jesus wept.
36 Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him!

The Romans did this to a lot of people. jesus didn't suffer any more or less than anybody else did. That is of course if he even existed. The Romans had all kinds of different ways of doing this to people too. They nailed one guy upside down by a certain body part. Now that guy suffered. I heard about this on the History Channel.

I think the hardest time for Jesus was being around the religious leaders and people who refused to turn their hearts and minds from evil. Jesus is God and was God in the flesh during his visit here on earth. Not once did he ever force his teachings on anyone. He could have but he didn't. It's like Jesus was saying "Open your eyes! Open your hearts! Open your minds! You don't have to live this way! You don't have to think this way!" You know I'm so guilty of not wanting to open my eyes, my heart or my mind. : (

Well I'm not really sure but the hardest time could be the days and months and years working up to it and knowing perfectly well what was going to happen to him.Like, when you have to do something you really don't want to do and you have to keep waiting you worry about it and wish you could get it over and done with.It would be practically unbearable of a burden for any ordinary man but- he was God.

At worst, Jesus had a really bad weekend for your sins.

Lets play a game and assume for a moment the Bible is literally true.

Crucifixion is a horrible way to die, but it's not the worst way to die by a long stretch, and thousands of regular humans have been crucified and tortured to death in even more disgusting, brutal, painful and prolonged ways.( Oftentimes by christians trying to convince them to believe in the peace and love message of Jesus) So, god didn't even take the biggest hit he could have. So Pastor Art below me is ignorant or lying when he says it was the "most cruel and painful form of capital punishment known to man".

And since he knows he's god, he knows it's gonna be over in a few hours and he'll be back home in heaven. (Hell, I can sit through a few hours of a bad chick flick if I know it'll make my wife happy...."happy wife: happy life" as the saying goes)

Third, since he's god and all, he made us, gave us the free will to choose to obey his commandments, knowing in advance all along that we wouldn't, yet still creating us anyway. Knowing that Eve would commit the original sin of disobedience (you see, I know its not about the fruit) and that the only way of atoning for her sins was to become human and be killed and that would save mankind. Except of course it wasn't quite that simple, you have to believe it as well....otherwise...eternal pit of fire for you, sinner.

It's just way too over-complicated and illogical when you actually think about it .
He is God. He made the rules. He could just forgive us. He could just never have created us. He could just have blinked us into non-existence and started from scratch.

There is no logical reason he has to offer himself as a bloody sacrifice to himself...there is no point.

He was never crucified!!!!!!! It was just meant to appear like that. Why should god have to put his own 'son' as you call him through that? Do you really think God needed this?
Can true salvation from God, be the punishment of someone else who is innocent from any of these crimes, to be punished as though he were guilty?

Does God need someone to suffer severe punishment, even though they are trying, day after day.

Just as when Ibraheem got thrown in the fire and God commended the fire to be cool, in a simular way, jesus was never crucified on the cross but was raised to Heaven alive and is a waiting for his return.

His time in the Garden was rough to be sure.

He knew what was coming, we need to be thankful that we don't.

The flogging was probably more painful than the crucifixion itself. But then again, I've never experienced flogging or crucifixion, so none of us really know.

Obviously when those spikes were pounded in that had to hurt big time.

Pushing up to breathe on the cross, that was extemely painful pushing up on the spike thru his feet.

Hanging on his arms like was awfully painful as well.

You see when one is on a cross hanging with your full weight on your arms, you cannot breathe. To breathe you have to push up with your legs, which is extremely painful, pushing against the spike which attached your feet to the cross.

It was in total the most cruel and painful form of capital punishment known to man. God planned it so Jesus would live then because only that would pay for our sins.

Death occurs by suffocation, when one no long has the strength to push up to breathe. Often, when people where not beaten like Jesus was first, they would live 3 to 5 days on the cross before they died.

I don't know why He loved me like He did but I'm glad He did.

Please note that Jesus suffering ended when he died.

He did not "go to hell and suffer for three days and three nights" as some have suggested.
