Hi,
I recently found out someone was trying to find out where I work and what I do for a living. I got scared I thought I was being investigated without my consent.

I realized that three months ago I was looking for a job and so I applied in different companies and some of this companies do background checks. At first I freaked out but then I confirmed it was for work applications only.

It got me so curious... how can Private investigators or detectives find all that info? Where do they go? Any databases of my records that can be given without my consent?

Also any way to keep an eye for all those things that run without me knowing about it?

Americans actually have few safeguards protecting their "privacy". In effect, it is easy to find where someone lives and track them to see where they work, very easily accomplished, and, nothing illegal about it, either.

You probably signed a document that gave them permission to look into your past when you applied for a job. But the biggest database is human, they simply asked your former employer, neighbors, references etc.

SSN DATA FILES AND STATE TAXES PAID. SSA HAS WHERE YOU WORK BY SSN BECAUSE YOU PAY INTO THE SYSTEM.

MANY ON LINE PLACES TO SEARCH FOR SSN. ONCE YOU KNOW A SSN YOU CAN FIND OUT TOO MUCH.
