Its just a form of social Darwinism.

"most of us believe THIS way, therefore, our way is correct ... and because our people were ONCE pagans, then it means we have evolved!"

that sort of mentality.

Because polytheistic religion tends to revolve around gods having domestic squabbles. A bit like a soap opera which nobody takes entirely seriously.

DEAR MILLER
Christianity has one God, there is only one divine will. The doctrine of the Trinity evolved because people were trying to make sense of God's activity in history. One God. Three persons.

By the way, you may be interested in a quote from a Hindu: ".... Later each of the three great Hindu religions integrated these three great gods in their functions as Creator of the world (Brahma), Preserver of the world (Vishnu) and destroyer of the world (Shiva). This triad of gods is, once again, seen only as a functional diferrentiation of the highest Divinity which towers over, includes, and wraps around all these forms." Even Hinduism has a belief that all the deities are manifestations of Brahman.

In the ancient world, this seems a common trait. The Persians came up with Zoroastrianism, the Babylonians had a similar view to the Hindu's that all god's were aspects of Marduk, the Egyptians had a brief period of monotheism before the old priestly caste had a palace revolution.

Why this happened is probably a variety of reasons, one maybe a consolidation of power, one king preferring one god whose priests are easier to control that many gods with many different sets of priests. Another seems to an evolution in theological thought as with all learning with the increase of urban centres.

The Roman Empire seems to have reached this stage when Christianity became its official religion. It was in competition with other forms of monotheism like Manichaeism. Mithraism, and Sol Invictus. Constantine was a follower of Sol Invictus, initially, and it may well have been that in his mind the Sun god and the Christian God was aspects of the same deity. What was important to him was that the Empire was united under one god especially as he decided to give it two emporers.

On an extremely basic level, I'm assuming that having one God who can do everything on His own is better than having a clergy of gods who share the work. This "sharing" and designation of duty may be considered as weakness.

That's just a possibility, not an accurate opinion.

Apart from that, from a Christian's perspective, the Holy Book states that there is only one God, and having any other beside Him is considered idolatry. Therefore, followers of a monotheistic religion feel that it is simply correct to believe in one deity.

Monotheism is the belief in only one supreme God over all.
He is not made up of three as many Christians seem to believe. The concept of a trinity stems from polytheistic religion. So yes the one true and only creator of mankind is monotheistic in that He is the one Almighty God and so He is superior to any other manmade gods.

Well the entire phenomena of monothiestic and polythiestic is very complicated. Christianity,Islam and Judism believed that serving one god ,a single eternal god would be easier, and the religion would not be able to go out of hand,it would become too complicated and the religion would be more harder to divide. For example,in Islam, there are many factions, but they all have Allah,in Christianity there are many factions, but they are based off the Holy Trinity,Christ,Mary.

A religion that is henothiestic,or polythiestic is easy to destroy,VERY easy to destroy, and that has happened throughout history.

Once again I will use my own religion of Sanatana Dharma (Hinduism) as an example. In my religion we belive in a single god (Krishna,Vishnu,Allah etc) and we believe in a spiritual world where already god takes many forms for many types of inhabbitants. Then we have trillions of material Universes which have a holy trinity (Vishnu,Brahma and Shiva) and in each of our souls we have a portion of god (param atma) within us.And then all the lifeforms in the material Universes must go through millions of incarnations, through higher and lower species, once reaching the human form of life (which isn't the highest),you can seek enlightenment and want to know more about god,you break the chain of incarnation by doing this.

And in each Universe, there is a high councel,Demi Gods who manage everything, many with four arms, one that manages the different elements etc etc etc.And sometimes,in the holy trinity that creates our one Universe, there are incarnations that save the Universe from various disastors.

So with all this complexity, what willl happen after Christians and Muslims kill 80 million Hindus within 5 centuries? The scriptures, the educated, the foundation.Obviously there will be much confusion, corruption and factions will appear.

So what has happened to my 'henothiestic' religion today?

Well for one, most people think I worship animals

We are considered polythiests as there are many factions worshipping one of the holy trinity or worshipping the demi gods

We are constantly abused and mistreated and looked down apon in the Western world (I don't see why Abrahamic people should look down apon the result of a religion they their ancestors helped destroy)

We have the rigid caste system

We have much inter religious tention and much of the scriptures are lost

In Christianity, there was probably a hundred or more years of genocide, and different versions of the bible were made, and yet there is still not much corruption, despite there being a few cults,Christianity has only fallen today because of Christians themselves, the constent bickering that others will go to hell, saying god will slaughter those who don't follow a certain path etc etc.

Islam is growing fast, but not as fast as it can because of similar reasons, terrorists and extremists ruin the name of their own religion

Judism has seen a steep downturn because of the genocide of Christians

The Abrahamic faiths have much potential, but due to their own inner corruption, created by themselves they are starting to fall apart

So its not a question of what type is superior, its a question of what faith can be held together and not be changed, unfortunately my own faith couldn't do that, the gurus and sages were excellent at getting their points, but we were not able to survive the unfortunate turn of events in history.

Christianity,Islam,Judism have not went through much genocide (despite the ones they created themselves) but why are those faiths falling?

Simply because of their own people, their own attempt to expand their faith,in ways god wouldn't want it expanding has led to it's downfall.

My faith could have gone on and stayed the same for thousands of more years, the Sages,Rishis and the devoted could get an understanding no matter how complex it is.In the Iskcon temple I go to,there is an answer for every question, all the way from why god exists to why we don't eat meat. But with unnatural causes like genocide, things fell apart.

Because now most people believe in one god. People like being superior to others. That is why polytheistic religions are inferior, as are all religions that are not the persons own. People like to judge, weigh, and measure others.

I don't think monotheism is better than polytheism.

The true test of any religion being good is in the observation of the behavior of its adherents.

Do polytheists (in general) behave better than monotheists (in general)?

In my limited experience (so far), polytheists have not tried to assert their beliefs on me. Whereas some monotheists have.

I am a polytheist. I don't see one as superior to the other, just a matter of one's personal beliefs.

Hinduism may be valid; it makes sense, even if it's a bit primitive for many. What can't get any respect is trinitarianism, which pretends to have three gods and one at the same time.

'One God. Three persons,' I am now told. That means 'One God. Three Gods, or gods.'

monotheistic religion has to be superior, because there is only one God, so having a polytheistic religion is false. Truth is always superior to falsehoods
