I'm looking to buy a ps3 in the next month or so, and will most probably make the purchase off Ebay. As i understand it, the HongKong version is an NTSC model while the Australian version is a PAL model. On Ebay, the average price of a 40gb PS3 from Australia, is about 650, while an 80gb PS3 from HK (NTSC) is also around that price including shipping. Obviously the financial advantages are there, but i'm not too sure about the technicals. What disadvantages are there if i were to purchase the PS3 from HK, or basically what i'm asking is, is there any reason NOT to purchase the NTSC version. over the PAL. Since games are region-free, why not NTSC?

I'm mainly looking to play PS3 games, nothing else really.

NTSC 60GB has a better backwards compatibility with PS2 games, but you said that you're not interested in PS2 games, so get PAL version because:
1). Official warranty
2). Movies are region locked, you won't be able to play movies from your region.
3). In most of the cases you'll need a power converter.

If you buy a PS3 console from a different region, some things will still not be payable. The 80gb can play PS2 games, but you won't be able to play PS2 games from your region if you get the Hong Kong console. I believe DVD's would have the same problem.

Bluray and PS3 games won't have a problem though.
