I have been smoking for ½ of my life, since I was 15. I have tried the gum, commit lozenges (effects my heart) I have used the patch, it gave me a nasty rash. I have prayed and had others pray for me. I am very religious, but perhaps I am just really weak. I have seen pictures of blacken lungs, seen people die of lung cancer and still I can’t quit. Jesus is the Lord of my life and I want to be clean of my addictions, but I still automatically grab my smokes, when I’m stressed I stress smoke…I’m smoking now.

½ my life plus one year, so over half my life I have been addicted. I have heard some people using self hypnosis, or affirmations to help them. I want to try this using my MP3 player, but I only have a few, can any one give me more affirmations, or ways that really helped them when they have been smoking as long as I have?

Here’s what I have so far, what can you add to my list?

Stuff like:
“I am not a smoker”
“I do not desire a cigarette”
“cigarettes do not rule my life”

I only have enough for like 30 seconds of recording, does anyone know of any more I can add to my list?

The only way it works, is throw the cigarettes away and go cold turkey. You have to suffer through the withdrawals. I quit while I was with child, but I'm back to it. Several of my family members have quit after several decades of smoking and they did it cold turkey. No cutting down, just get up one morning and don't smoke. The intense desire for a smoke only lasts 3 minutes, so if you can get through those 3 minutes it gets easier. Don't have any cigarettes near you. Dump all ash trays so you won't be tempted to have a butt.
You have to be really dedicated to stopping, one minute at a time, one day at a time. Find something good to do, busy yourself, sitting idol is the worst thing you can do.

I just got tired of the smell, and decided one day to quit. Once I made up my mind, it was easy. There is a new drug out called Chantix, which I've heard people say worked for them when none of the other "cures" did. You might ask your doctor about it, or I'm sure there's a website.

We moved into a house where we couldn't smoke inside. I was down from two packs a day to half a pack in less than two months. Six months later I quit cold turkey. I didn't so much have an urge to smoke as it was like having PMS on steroids.:P

So from my experience you might try only smoking outside.

Good luck.:)

In all honesty, God doesn't care if you smoke. When he says "your body is a temple" he means that in the spiritual sense, where the Holy Spirit occupies your heart and your mouth confesses the Christian faith.

If you really want to quit smoking, tell others so they can force you to quit if you cannot force yourself.

Won't have to wait for too long now. They've come up with a vaccine! It's supposed to block any "good feeling" messages of Nicotine, from going to the brain. That should help you quit! Good luck!

I didn't use drugs or anything.

I told myself when I quit:
"What's the worse thing that could happen to me if I DON'T light up?"
answer: "I'll be uncomfortable. I can live with discomfort."
