The why of the why of the why of the why, going right back to the original separation from God, is the guilt that is felt through time, offset and defended by blame and shame of and on self and other.

The atonement is to know the perceived separation in reality never happened, it cannot ever happen.

The shift in consciousness was only from God to ego.(the illision)
Relinquish the hold/control the ego has in and on life, the being will again come to know God.

God is Gracious
Peace in the Heart

Guilt can and does destroy love, as well as our other emotions. And can even harm our sleep. But the main issue concerning guilt is. If we repent from our wrong doing. If we learn from our wrong doing. Then our guilt, most of the time. Will not be a problem. It is when we do not learn from what we do wrong, and do not correct the things that we do wrong. That is when guilt causes much grief.

The reason that most elderly people are so knowledgable. Is because the lived a long life. Full of regrets.

I'm not sure about your premise, but I learned a long time ago that guilt is a tool that people use to manipulate you. Nowadays the only guilt I feel is when I've done something I'm ashamed of. I don't let others "guilt" me into playing their games.

Guilt & condemnation go hand in hand.

But Jesus paid the price for remission of our sin. So when we receive His atonement for our sins, then our sins are washed away. There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit for those in Christ Jesus has set us free, from the law of sin & death. There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

God does convict us in our spirits when we do something wrong & we are to confess our sin & He (Jesus) is faithful & just to forgive us our sins & cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

This is discipline. And conviction. There is a way out.
With guilt & condemnation there is no way to make things right.

Guilt is something that comes from within. It is a manifestiation of internal conflict. It's a good motivator, unlike it's counterpart, shame--which is often manipulative and comes from outside sources.

Forgiveness is the key. Start with oneself, then spread to others. It assuages guilt, and leaves a clearing for love.

There is no fear in love;
but perfect love casts out fear;
because fear has torment.
He that fears
is not made perfect in love. 1 John 4:18

1 John 4:16
and we have known and believed the love that God has toward us. God is love; and he that dwells in love dwells in God and God in him.
