Again, I'm not gay but everytime I ask a question like this people seem to get stuck on the fact I somehow must be.

All I have to say is, that if there is a gay person in the family, there is often a problem with them loosing relitives, friends over the issue. They also (and Im stereotyping) might not have a great relationship with their fathers, and need a good father figure (in God) to look for support, love, moral guidence.

Why would such a valuable resource push away these people, if anything they are prime converts, 'easy pickins' as they somethaves no family to rely on...I thought religion was supposed to be helping society, not destroying it.

I'm a pastor in a Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Our church doors, and our denomination doors, are open to anyone who wants to come in.

There is room for gays in our pews next to the gossiping women, the twenty somethings having sex out of marriage, the thief, the drunks, and those who'll go home and view pornography.

Christ's arms are spread wide enough for all of us.

Godspeed.

I think it's because most religious people are so set on following the bible to a "t" that there's no room for mistakes or changes. You make a mistake, you go to hell, you're different, you go to hell and they will take it upon themselves to judge you and label you as "different" and a threat to everything they practiced in church, therefore, it's against God. What they forget is that God and Jesus loves EVERYONE equally no matter what, PERIOD!

I think all gay people or just people who feel "different" should start their own church that practices and celebrates everyone's individuality. If they can have biker churches or churches that praises the word of "the force", then there could probably be a gay church some where, they just need to advertise so everyone knows about them.

If they are willing to come and hear the Gospel, that's great. I want them to get saved so they can be delivered from that lifestyle. But if they are "gay christians" and want to come to our church and "enlighten" us about the homosexual lifestyle, that wouldn't be welcomed. We believe that homosexuality is a serious sin, and not something that should be a regular part of our church. Sin can influence others and cause them to stumble too. It isn't something to accept or tolerate from other people, it is something to help one another with, to pray for, to deal with.

So while I don't advocate treating gay people with hatred like the Westboro crazies do, I also don't think that they should be coming to our church, openly living in that kind of sin, and calling themselves Christians at the same time. I don't hate them at all, and I will treat them with the same courtesy I treat everyone else. But I won't accept the lifestyle or welcome it in my church. Sorry if that makes me an awful person! But last time I checked, being a Christian doesn't mean that it is my job to accept and support something that goes against my God's plan.

I don't understand why we do this. It is a peculiar error called "Donatism" that states that Christians should only hang around with and help perfect people who are just like us in every way. For who is a perfect person? We'd all be awfully lonely!

God loves everyone. And unlike Fred Phelps, I don't artificially draw an imaginary line between God and gay people. Jesus came to love and save everyone who was willing to come to him in faith. Do you think Jesus made some artificial distinction when it came to one specific class of people? The scriptures never show such a thing...

"The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners!" (Luke 7:34)

Well, religion and Christianity are labels and unless people have a heart knowledge of God, they do not have His unconditional love
they may have a head knowledge and generally use negatives to deal with people and condemn them;
Jesus came to seek and to save that which was lost
John 3:16 and 17
For God so loved the word that He gave His only begotten Son
that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have eternal life
for God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world but that the world through Him might be saved
He rebuked the religious people and they killed Him for telling them the truth

THAT is a VERY good question. Jesus called us to love one another, and to heal one another's hurts. We should not be bashing them just because they are sinners. ALL have sinned. And as far as God is concerned, homosexuality is NO WORSE than gluttony. And I've seen a LOT of fat pastors out there. While we do need to gently remind them that we must cease sinning, and we need to encourage them that in God all things are possible, there is NO EXCUSE for the hatred and condemnation we generally see coming from Christians. I guess some of us just don't get it when Jesus talks about love.

Sadly, the fact of the matter is that for many Christians their tactics are entirely self-serving. As the first poster Gruz clearly demonstrates many fine upstanding Christians would rather see them dead given the chance.

Many Christians don't care about homosexuals and would rather they just disappear. They just rail against homosexuality because it gives them some way to express their prejudice in a way that makes them seem like good Christians.

I don't think that "Christianity" pushes gays away. I think that people do. The hypocrites that are present in any religion.

Of course, if gays subscribe to Christianity, then they would also have to accept that homosexual sex is a sin. If they continue to "sin" and do not attempt to change, then they would not be considered truly repentant.

Its one thing for the gay community to demand equal treatment under the law - its quite another for them to mandate that a religion needs to change its core principles in order to appease them. There is nothing stopping them from starting their own sect of Christianity that accepts gay sex as "holy" - though I'm sure that they'll have difficulty being accepted by the larger protestant community as being saved.

Christianity doesn't push away gays, it's the Christians whose own opinions are blurring their faith.
Jesus called us to love one another as stated here: "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets." --Matthew 22:37-40
Salvation is between God and the individual and not justifiefd by the criticism of others. Faith is the only justification needed: "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." --Ephesians 2:8-9

This is really important to comprehend:

doing something that God forbids is going AGAINST GOD

This people should know that God loves them as equal of any of their followers but they NEED TO KNOW THEY HAVE TO CHANGE and only REPENTING will be the door to live a life as a child of God

but some of them they dont get thiis point and try to change something that the Lord says in the Bible is an abomination before His eyes (those are words of Bible ) and made it seem natural or something that they were born with.
