Yes, you can, but it is usually the elderly or the very young who do.

There are millions of people that have MRSA on their skin. Each year about 19,000 people die from MRSA, but nearly all of those deaths are due to spread of MRSA into the blood stream or organs from open wounds caused by surgery or tramautic accidents. Its extremely rare for MRSA to to invade the body in the absence of severe wounds or surgery, but a few people die from this each year. To put this in perspective, there are hundreds of people that die from the flu each year for every person that dies from MRSA, and most people don't even bother to get flu shots. If your friend cleans and disinfects wounds whenever he/she gets cuts or scratches, they will probably never have a problem.

Yes it can, but it doesn't generally. If it gets into the bloodstream, though, it can kill you.

My son had it several times in a row. His doctor told him to get an antibiotic wash like physoderm and use it once a week. Also, there's an antibiotic they can give him to put in his nose if he's carrying it there. My son, by the way, is fine. His second bout with it was nasty and painful, but he didn't get it again after that. Hopefully he won't again, but there's no telling since it's become more prevalent.

It is treatable, but in severe cases, yes, I'm afraid it can be fatal. More likely to happen with elderly people though, so try not to worry.
