A voter initiative to do that started recently and this may be in response to that. He says that being one of 7 places people can get illicit licenses is turning Oregon into a haven for that, and he wants that to stop.

What do you think?

Although, this would add a 'driving only' ID, which illegals could still get and I'm against that.

Also, Congress put in a bill to stop states from issueing drivers' licenses to illegal immigrants.

Personally, I think that is a states rights issue, but I'm in favor of the principle, and if people are saying this is a federal issue....

Red Angel, the one in Oregon is CURRENTLY accepted on planes, prior to REAL ID.

We need to stop the benefits and make it hard, not easy, to live illegally. Supposing everyone here was legalized tomorrow, how would you ever STOP the inflow without enforcing the law and refusing these benefits?

I have been doing the happy dance ever since Mr. "I supported, aided, and abetted illegals, because they paid for their licenses, and that helped our economy (NOT!) for years" made that announcement 2 weeks ago. I happen to live in Oregon, and have been pressuring that man and Ron Wyden to bow to the people of the State. After all they are our workhorses, not the other way around. Next we're going after all of them that legislate laws for the people of Oregon to stop allowing illegals State, and Federally funded programs to illegals. Also making English the only language. Doesn't mean those that speak another language can't. But it will put an end to whose language will be the main language in this country.

And although people seem to think that this is a Federal issue, they are mistaken with the laws. Federal laws supersede State laws in "certain cases". But each States Constitutional Laws allow how or if those laws will or will not be applied or enforced. It's up to the people of each state to change those laws, or force their legislators to implement and enforce Federal laws of they so choose to. As you can see, we were tired of our own crooked state government officials inviting problems (via handouts) to the illegals. They have learned from past experiences just what happens when they tick the majority of Oregonians off. Especially if we didn't ask for what they are forcing us to contend with.

It's a step in the right direction, but I wonder we in the the USA seem to treat the illegals as if we need to address their needs or recreate policies that will accommodate them before we can enforce the law. If you are here illegally, we should not be giving you drivers licenses to go to jobs you should not have

I don't understand the thinking of those who approve of illegal immigrants getting a license. If we make it easy for them to get a license, we make it easy for criminals get a hold of these license. The license is like a slippery slope. We first accept them crossing our borders illegally, then we accept the fact they are driving with out license, and I see people on this site saying whats the big deal with them committing Identity theft. If they were good people they would recognize they commited a crime and would bend over backwards to committing another. Life is not meant to be easy for anyone.

NOTE: IN GEORGIA there is a follow up, if a person DROPS insurance the STATE is notified by the insurance company!

I think the larger danger is people who are uninsured wheather legal or illigal.

Geogia has a law that people were fined $25 or if convicted up to 1,000 and up to 12 months jail. I think anyone American or other wise should have insurance.

I think the driving ONLY ID would be good, along with insurance enforcement.

I NOW live in one of the sta.te that allow licenses for illigals, and for the small town there are a lot of illigals here.

ONE of the largest problems in Georgia was people who came in from neigboring Southern States who were uninsured.

Also, I'm NOT saying, I agree with them being here, BUT no one is doing anything to GET THEM OUT.

Neither Republican or Democrats care. IF they did they would not be here.

Business WOULD be FINED and that would be the END of HIRING illigals.

Their insurance would be cancelled the day after they get their licenses. Happens all the time, and there is no follow-up to insure insurance stays on their vehicles. Only after they are in a pile-up or stopped for a traffic infringement is the proof of insurance checked. I am not for the illegal criminal aliens having any privileges, a driver's license being one of them.

I don't understand why intelligent people can not figure this out before they issue licenses to illegal immigrants.

it needs to be stopped, if the govt sees the state is not doing what is right then they can put a stop to a lot of things. i think the supreme court is wrong for letting illegals have their kids here and giving citizens rights to the anchor baby's. we need to boycott the courts!!!!!

all states have stated: it is a 'privilege' to drive a motor vehicles in their state. now explain how if you/me commit a vehicles crime and 'we' as legal Americans loose our right to drive, that you or our gov./state gov. would issure a Lic. to someone who should not be here in the first place? wait till an 'illegal' with a gov. issured drivers Lic. kills a legal American.the lawsuit will bankrupt that state gov.

the license for illegals is NOT identification it is only for insurance and tracking purposes whether you aprove or not THEYRE NOT LEAVING!!!!! so they might as well be insured

ok how about insuring cars to drivers without licenses? that would lessen the risk for fraudalent ids and sill allow us to insure our cars......Mexicans arn't dumb we realize the importance of a secure ID....but we also want to be insured....so we dont get screwed (and by the way so the other driver doesnt get screwed either)....were trying to be as law-abiding as we can...(yes yes within the "illegal" context i know i know) .so help us do what we can...

paying car-insurance is a privelage??? right.....

artoris: sweethart started his post about insurance and ended with saying THAT is what IS a privlage

that is an incorrect statement..

Driving is a privilage not insurance

Insurance is what is motivating people to get the license in the first place
