I was in iraq twice, and came back fine, other than some shrapnel in my leg, but what a stupid, stupid question. I love my country, not everyone in it however, but at least i can say i did something important in this life. Not like some of the people who answered this question, now to all of you who agree with the bs this question, go get me a big mac and mow my lawn.

A lot of men and women have fought, been wounded, maimed and died so whiners like you can sit there happy and safe and questioning REAL men's motives.
Not EVERYONE gets disfigured in the military. I spent over 20 years, did 'my time' in Viet Nam, as did thousands of others and we didn't get disfigured.
Ask FIRE FIGHTERS why they do what THEY do even though THEY could get terrible burns and get maimed or die.
Ask cops why THEY do what they do even though THEY could lose their life in a simple traffic stop.
Time for you to grow up little boy. That MAN sacrificed a lot in hopes SOMEONE could live in freedom.
I lost twin uncles in Korea. One was MIA in December of '50, the other was KIA in January of '50. They were fighting for the freedom of South Korea...for people they didn't even know.
My father lost an arm in Europe, even though he had moved from Finland to the U.S., fighting for the freedom of Europeans HE didn't know.
That's what REAL Americans are willing to do. Fight for the freedom of those who don't have what we have.
Learn to speak English. It's not DIS, it's THIS.

Again with this...
Joining the military does NOT automatically mean you die, lose limbs, or come back burned and disfigured. The casualty figures are extremely low for something that has been going on as long as this has.
We have been in Iraq for almost as long as we were in WWII. Do you have any idea what the casualty figures were for that?
I do; 318,274 killed, 565,861 wounded. That is out of over 16 million in service; so the ratio of killed/wounded to unscathed is under 6%.
Get your facts straight before making such bogus comments.

Because "Freedom isn't Free"
As long as we are free to worship/live/have the choice to live how we choose we will owe that to a veteran. To be able to sleep comfortably at night without the fear of biological attacks or bomb threats we owe to our active service men and women. Who will protect your very life if not for a servicemen?
They are not like you or most people for that matter. They are willing to sacrifice their own lives to protect our country. They will put the safety of others before their own. These soldier's define courage, honor and pride. All I have is the up most respect for such selfless sacrifice.

They don't, but they know it is a possibility. People join for many different reasons. Love of country, civic duty, education, financial need, adventure.... Life has no guarantees. You could be hurt as badly in an auto accident or a kitchen fire.

not all soldiers come home looking like that. im sick of the media only showing the ones that come back injured. my brother has served 2 tours and has come on untouched every time.
again...not all soldiers get injured in iraq. id like to see half the people on yahoo answers have enough you know what to go fight the way they do.
i hope you realize you wouldn't be able to talk crap unless they were fighting..they fight for this freedom.

First, not everyone comes back looking like that. Second, some people are willing to sacrifice their lives for this country. Third, men and women in our military are heroes and do more in the years they are in the military than alot of people will ever do in their entire lives.

It isn't so pieces of animated fecal matter like you can mock them.
I don't fight for any of you a**holes. I could not give less of a damn about your ability to exercise your rights, or your personal freedoms.
The only thing keeping most of you from being engaged as an enemy is your lack of conviction, personal courage, and willingness to stand up for what you yourself believe in.
You are just lucky enough to share the same zip code with people I do support, people who are worth fighting for, people whose rights and freedoms do matter to me. The sort of people who are decent, who have a sense of honor when it comes to supporting the people who defend them.
I don't do any of this schit for people like you, smartass.
Just be sure you stay behind me, so I don't make any mistakes in identifying friend from enemy when I'm pressed for time.
Have a nice day.....after all.....somebody else has already paid for it.
