I work in sales selling insurance reviews. Though it is really immoral and wrong, but it is easier to sell to lower income people because they are the ones that need help and aren't very good with money. I don't agree with it and i even work in the job (Not door to door, telemarketing)
It sucks but its a job and its life
Sorry

I used to be a door to door salesman and I didn't go to poor neighborhoods. I do know from experience that groups of salesman in a van will pick a neighborhood they have not been to before , because they already hit the rich ones, and then they will all jump out and run through the neighborhood because they have no other choice.

The door to door sale semen generally comes from middel or low income group (i) in the binging of their carrier, (ii) when they fail to get other job. They find it is easy to target similar group, higher group may not be able to convince.

my neighborhood has a notice of no solicitation. You should post one and then it would be against the law. BTW, even with this sign and we are not in low income neighborhood, they still try and we just say "No solicitation"
So annoying isn't it!

i think several reason,
first, those people will most likely not immediately call the cops on them, for perhaps soliciting without a license
then also, they may feel those people have less access to information and shopping resources, so they might feel they are more receptive to ideas and products
basically, they will be more likely to be received and listened to in those areas
