Read and repeat new words, find out what the pronunciation is. Having an English dictionary is a must. Not only will tell you what the word means but also how it's pronounced.

I have another suggestion. I'm italian and I study languages at university. So, learning new words into the two languages I study is one of my problems since I've attended my first course! Well, don't use the bilingual dictionary! use only the monolingual one. you must understand the word thinking that into the language you want to improve. Try to think in that language...everything you see, or everything you want to express...translate it!

All of the above are excellent suggestions. Another one would be to practice correct vocabulary usage when you write. Nothing will ruin your vocabulary faster than taking short cuts in your writing. Also try to learn and use, properly, a couple of new words each week. Good luck.

It's converse in english not conversate.
If you are unable to afford college english courses then your next best bet would be the library for english grammar & vocabulary books.

Read, read, read... anything. When you find a word you don't know, look it up in the dictionary.
Anything will do.. magazines, newspapers, books, the Internet.
Just read as much as you can. You'll be surprised!!
