The bridge does not go from the main gate to Ford Island. There is a new gate at the Halawa ferry site and a road that connects it to Kamehameha Hwy. It was opened in 1998. Here is a good link about it.

bridge to ford island...I was stationed there 79-81
and I never seen one when I went over to ford island
I went on the small boats

Was that the pontoon bridge?
