Hawwaiian baked ham ia always very good and juicy. 1 can pineapple juice 1/2 of that can of water 1/2 jar cherry juice 1/4 C minced onion. Arrange pineapple slice on top of ham with cherry in the middle of the pineapple , hold in to place with a tooth pick. Stick whole clove into ham ( if you only have ground cloves - just sprinkle onto ham) Sprinkle a little bit of black pepper and a handful of brown sugar over ham and you are ready to bake. The juices form the ham make an awsome gravy!!....... Or you could just get a big fat picnic ham put into a big kettle with cabbage wedges and cut up carrot chunks (large), chunked potatoe, 1 chopped onion a little bit of black pepper, a hanful of brown sugar and cook on the stove top. A great 1 pot meal.

About 7 years ago, I worked at a restaurant in Tennessee. Oddly, we had a ham dish we called the Fried Kentucky Country Ham. This was simply the best ham recipe I had ever used. And the people just loved it.

Hope it works for you,

Fried Kentucky Country Ham

Slices should be 1/4 inch thick.

Trim the edges slightly, removing the skin.
Place a small amount of fat in a heavy frying pan and preheat. The fat may be lard, bacon drippings, or rendered ham fat.
Place the ham slices in hot fat and cook slowly, turning often.

The ham will be done when the fat portion around the edges is slightly brown.

Red Gravy: Remove the ham slices from the pan and pour off any excess fat, leaving only the brown residue.

Add some water and simmer about 5 minutes, stirring constantly. Pour the red gravy over the ham slices.

GENUINE VIRGINIA BAKED HAM

1 small, rather lean ham
6 cloves
1/2 teaspoonful celery seed
2 tablespoonful sugar
Boiling water
1 egg, beaten
10 peppercorns
1/2 teaspoonful ground cinnamon
1 quart sweet cider
2 tablespoonfuls breadcrumbs
Celery leaves and curls for garnish
Currant sauce

Select a ham weighing about seven pounds. Wash the ham thoroughly, sprinkle with soda, rubbing it all over the surface, rinse in cold water, and place in a deep kettle, with the cloves, celery seed, cinnamon, peppercorns and cider. Cover with boiling water and simmer until perfectly tender, four or five hours.
Take from the kettle, remove the skin, and sprinkle the ham with sugar. Brush over with beaten egg, cover with ground breadcrumbs, stick in cloves at even intervals and brown in a 550 degrees fahrenheit oven.

We always get a spiral sliced, pre-cooked, ham at the grocery store. It does come with some brown sugar glaze, but it's really very good. Heats up in about an hour and is much less work than doing one on your own. Growing up though my mom would use cloves, pineapple slices, and cherries along with just a dusting of brown sugar and it was always a hit!

before putting ham in oven to cookl as usual, make a honey mustard glase. in small bowl, stir together 3/4 cup Dijon mustard, 2 tablespoons honey, and 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice until well blended.1/3 cup minced red onion and season to taste. score any fat on ham to allow flavors to get into meat and using a brush or by hand rub the honey mustard into ham, cook ham as usual.

I use a combination of brown sugar, honey and pineapple juice - gives the ham a nice crust and is not too sweet.

What I used to do is cross-hatch the ham, then at the intersections stick in whole cloves.
