I was given a ticket for driving to endanger for passing two cars at once. It was in a passing zone with plenty of clear road ahead. I've looked up the Mass. law about passing. It doesn't specificly allow or outlaw it. Here is a link to the law-

If you notice, it says vehicle, not vehicles. If the road was totally clear, you might have a good chance of beating it. Remember, I said might.

Here in Arizona I see people every day passing long rows of five cars or more on the wrong side using a right turn lane or on-ramp that's about to end. If it were up to me they would all get their licenses revoked. This is extremely dangerous because they're counting on getting ahead of everyone else before the lane runs out and they're doing up to 90 mph or more to do it. I wish they'd remove all right turn lanes from these intersections and put up "no right turn on red" signs all four ways. The mere presence of an extra lane seems to make these speed demons feel like they're in the right passing everyone, but they're wrong and I'm sure countless accidents have been caused by this.

My point is that it's not just what the law says that matters. When someone exceeds the limits of safe driving to pass a line of cars that are probably already driving 5 to 10 mph over the speed limit, that person should get a ticket for reckless driving.

Even if passing to cars at once IS legal (I make no claim about that), the officer that issued the ticket believes it was not safe under the circumstances. At best, this is a case of your judgment against the officers. Most courts will believe the officer absent evidence from an outside source.

I was driving behind a State Trooper...his pulled out and passed two vehicles......the road was straight and clearly viewed...well, I pulled out and went behind him, and passed the same two vehicles. So now I was behind him.
When we finally came to a red light, he walked out and told me to pull over into the next gas station.
He told me what I did was illegal and he was going to give me a ticket. Passing two cars at once.
I just told him, I felt very safe behind him, which I did.....
He smiled, and just told me not to do it again.
Wonder if I had gotten the ticket, what about the Police Officer since he was going home. Not in pursuit or anything?

Pretty much illegal in any state.

I tried passing a long row of cars once. Somebody further up the row decided to do the same thing right as I was going past. I ended up wrecking a friends car and it was my fault.

Don't do it, illegal or not, it's dangerous and stupid.
