And the media really think people who watch that stuff can tell the difference between fact and fiction.

Ever wonder how the Navy could drive those really big boats and still be able to fight?

Any combat vehicle, land, sea, or air, is manned by a team. Each person on the team has a specific job to do. Sometimes the jobs overlap. Some of the team members may be crossed-trained (that means taught to do the jobs of some of the other team members), but when the bad stuff starts happening, each person does his job. Some drive, some load, some shoot, some are on lookout, some work the radio, some take care of the wounded, some keep those that shoot supplied with ammunition. And they do their jobs and let the other guys do theirs.

IF YOU SEE IT IN THE MOVIES IT IS NOT REAL. It's entertainment.
IF YOU SEE IT IN A VIDEO GAME IT IS NOT REAL. It's a game.
IF YOU SEE IT IN THE NEWS IT IS NOT REAL. It's a break in the advertising.
Got it?

NOTE: For those who point to my statement about combat vehicles being manned by a team and remind me that there are single-seat jets, I don't consider them just "vehicles"... they're weapons... kind of like firing a weapon from the inside.

There we go buddy, yeah there are. You said you wanted to be in the Marines earlier right? Well take note that Black Hawk Down is about the Rangers, eh there might have been some Delta Force I don't remember.

But look into LAV crewman, or maybe even a tanker. LAV is considered infantry, but it's more of a mechanized infantry/mounted infantry aka infantry on vehicles. That's the Marines though, I'm in the DEP program and I'll be in boot camp here in less than a year after I get out of school. Good Luck.

The point of driving is to get your soldiers the heck out of dodge as quickly as possible, unless you have to wait for the IED guy to make sure the road is clear of explosives first and to get your soldiers to first aid pronto!
Most of the time thats all you will do is drive and you will get tired of driving and driving and driving and when you drive you must have another soldier with you especially if you are driving and LMTB and an FMTB because they are huge and you need someone to help you back up and park the dran things and therefore guess who will be driving your shot-gun down (your helper) down to the motorpool (if your shot-gun) does not have a vehical (and most soldiers who live in the barracks don't have a POV ((personal Own Vehical)) of their own) you will, anyways, just to let you know, and some posts make you wear your helmet everytime you are in a military vehical, so you may want to consider that to. I was a printer, but they made me drive all the time, I thought it was my new MOS (job). I drove people or supplies or print jobs everywhere, always driving.
In Iraq I don't know what you would do, maybe avoiding IED's driving like crazy, or driving really slowily, driving slowily at night with dimily lit lights, so you could avoid detection by the enemy, ect.

If your a driver u drive u will have a dismount team to do the ground work you just get them there. Its not up to you to be a driver or be dismount that will be assigned to you by your Platoon Sgt or squad leader. You cant really drive and shoot anyways cuz the uparmored Humvees windws dont roll down.

A drivers job is to keep the vehicle moving to keep his crew alive. The only time he will fight is if the need to dismount the vehicle arises.

Your main job as the driver is to do just that--Drive. If the need ever arrises, then you would dismount the vehicle and fight to protect yourself, your buddy, and the vehicle and equipment.

No you just dive and others shot unless you are a gunner for a tank or fly a helicopter.

If you're the driver of a HMMWV and you take fire, your purpose is to drive. You have a gunner and passengers to fire back.
