Does anyone know if/how much terrier mixes shed?

2007-11-17 03:00:05 · 8 answers · asked by Emma <33 2 in Pets Dogs

The thing is, I am young and want to rescue an animal from the ASPCA. I found one that really caught my eye. Her name is Lucy, and she is a terrier mix.I really want to get it but my mom is allergic to dogs that shed and my dad wants me to make sure it doesnt before we get it. Here is the site that shows Lucy. Hope this helps answer my question!

Terriers dont shed much but if what they are mixed with do (such as an Akita etc) there is a higher chance they might. put your hand through the dogs hair and gently pull up, if there is hair in your hand it is usually a sigh they will shed, also look at the length of there hair and see what type it is ( silky, rough etc)

I have a Chihuahua/Terrier mix and although she has short hair, she sheds quite a bit. I do have her groomed, which helps a lot. No matter how much she sheds, she has been a loving, fun part of the family for 16 years now :)

My dog is a terrier mix, she doesnt shed that much. EXCCEPT in shedding season!!! In the spring and fall, great drifts of orange fur fill float about on the floor. I guess it really depends on what the terrier is mixed with---Jill is terrier and some sort of hound.

This often depends on the mix. If a poodle shedding is either very little to none. if bread with soemthing that sheds a lot can be a heavy shedder

Depends on what type of terriers. But all dogs that have fur will shed to some degree!

It depends on the length of the fur. I had a medium length hair terrier and he didn't shed that bad, but you never know.

Terriers are not big shedders. Because their hair is so short they do not shed as much as a long haired dog would.

thats the thing with MUTTS. you can never tell, how they will turn out (looks, health etc.) please dont encourage the breeding of mutts by buying one. why dont you go for a full bred terrier? or why dont you get one from a shelter?
