I want to get a cute kitten for my 1 yr. old and my 4.5 yr old. Not to mention I want one too..lol!! Is there a pill or something I could take for the mild hives, sneezing, itchy-watery eyes, itchy throat that I get from cats?? There's got to be something! But I don't want crazy side effects either. Do I have to go to a doctor? Does the medicine relieve the allergies completely?

I would stay away, or keep it out doors. You can use allergy meds like benedryal, zyrtec, ect. There are also soaps and shampoos you can use on the cat t help, but end result is you will be miserable. None of the meds or shampoos will completly relieve your symptoms, and sooner or later you will throw the cat outside.

For me, long haired cats are worse than short, maybe of some help to you, but..

No, medicine will not relieve the allergies completely. Besides you really do not want to be on medicine 24 hours a day for several years.
The only way to truly get rid of cat allergy is allergy desensitation shots. However, they take a few years to start working.

I took allergy shots twice a week for a few years but I am much better with cats and dogs now. You can also try a vitamin C supplement that helps too and I suppose antihistamines but I always try to go natural and it depends on the severity of your allergy

You could try getting a hairless cat. I think people who are allergic to cats are allergic to the fur. If this is true a hairless cat shouldn't bother you.
