We have noticed this round boney lump on the top of our 4 month old Golden Retriever's head. It seems to be getting larger as the puppy grows. We went away last week and my friend watched him, when we came back it seems more noticable now than before, more like a "cone head" appearance.
We have 2 other Golden's and we have had them since they were pups and we never noticed a lump on their heads.
I'm wondering if we should make another trip to the vet. The pup has been there 2 times now for shots and the vet never said anything looked wrong with his head but we didn't ask either because we hadn't noticed it at that point?
Anyone ever had a pup with a "cone head" before?
Is there something wrong or will his head somehow grow into this?

I would say this is perfectly normal in a Golden at this age. I have seen it so many times in puppies around 3/4 months. Some of mine have had the same thing. The heard starts to 'break' around about 3 months and will even out as the pup grows. It's very similar to a baby when it is born. The fontanelle is very soft at first then as the baby starts to develop it starts to close as the skull hardens

Make an appointment with your Vet if you are worried but I am sure he will say the same thing.

I think your puppy will be just fine.

I'm not a vet; just a BabyBoomerGrannieRN-Dog lover.

Bone overgrowth seems unlikely at 4 months old.

If the the "lump" is firm but moveable; it maybe a sebacious cyst involving the scalp. If it gets tender, hot, or swollen it could be lanced for drainage.

Then there are tumors; good ones & bad malignant ones.

If he were mine I'd take him to the vet. Be sure to take a list of all questions you need answers to. Also, tell the vet if you notice any unusual behaviors like difficulty walking, tremors, vomiting, balance issues etc.

If you trust this vet & you're told he's fine don't be embarrassed but be proud knowing you've done your best.
Smile & tell your vet "That's the best news I could hear". If you get bad news you can work with the vet to make him better. Wishing you & "pup" the best.

EITHER WAY.....go home & play with him in the leaves while the sun shines.

Any true white hair is considered a fault in a Golden Retriever. Are they really White, or perhaps a lighter gold. Are these stray hairs, or a true mixture throught his coat? A Golden Retriever many times is a lighter color as a puppy, however the color on it's ears is usually the true color the dog will be when it matures. When you purchased your puppy you should have rec'd a pedigree (usually one covering four generations), along with your AKC registration papers - they should resolve any concerns you may have about him being pure bred. I don't know what you paid for your puppy, perhaps if it was a lesser amount - like several hundred dollars, it was sold as a "pet" quality animal (if the coloring is truly off). This often is the practice of many breeders. However, you should have been told.

It is not normal for them to have a "cone head" haha, It could be something really minor but if it is growing rapidly then it could be an abscess etc so i would take her to the vet for peace of mind and get the lump checked.

off to you vet you must go, im surprised you have not done so, no good watching it grow, it needs attention, now, so book an appointment, yes, it will cost money, but that is all part of the responsibilities of having a pet.

i would suggest you make an appointment to be on the safe side.
At 4 months she is due for her rabies shot anyways.
