I've personally never been able to taste the difference. What you can taste a difference in are two deer that are years in age apart (such as a yearling compared to an mature deer). The younger deer are usually more tender and have less of a gamey taste.

If the same person prepares the meat from a doe and a buck from the same area, that have been eating the same things, and are the same age, you will not be able to tell any difference.

I've been told that, but I've never really been able to tell the difference. Deer tastes like deer.

It depends on what they have been eating & their age.*
