Whether it's meatballs in an Italian sauce, or some other kind of gravy or saucy liquid, it'll work great in a crockpot. Regardless of which sauce, be sure you brown them first. I used to use the frypan for that, but discovered it's much easier in the oven. That way they don't have to be watched or turned, and no splatter from the frying. You don't really need instructions. Make sure there's lots of sauce covering the meatballs completely, cover and cook either on low for the longer period, or med-high for the suggested time (3-5 hours). That's all there is to it. If for an Italian sauce... make sure you make your own sauce. A ready made sauce is already prepared, so cooking for several more hours could change the taste.

That's a great question and I'm sure glad you asked it! One of the greatest inventions of all time is the crock pot! And too many people don't even know what the sam hill it is.

Here's my favorite recipe. I call it Dontell Jackson's "Aint No Thang" Beer and Meatball Heaven Surprise:

INGREDIENTS:

* 2 pounds lean ground beef
* 1 cup fine dry breadcrumbs
* 1 teaspoon garlic powder
* 2 eggs, beaten
* grated Parmesan cheese
* 1/4 teaspoon parsley
* 1/2 teaspoon dried leaf oregano, crumbled
* 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
* milk
* 2 cans (24 ounces) beer
* 1 cup ketchup

PREPARATION:
Mix hamburger, breadcrumbs, egg, seasonings and milk together. Make small meatballs. Bake meatballs for about 40 minutes, turning to brown all sides; discard fat. Combine ketchup and beer in the crockpot and set on LOW.

Put browned meatballs into the sauce; cover and cook for 6 to 8 hours. Serve hot. And ENJOY!
Makes 4 to 5 dozen meatballs.

OK, THIS IS WHAT I DO- I brown my meatballs first in a skillet with little veg. oil. Then I take my sauce and pour over the meatballs to coat, once coated, I place in my crockpot. Just to keep warm. Try that. But usually the outside only tastes like sauce not the inside,,if you want that, then add some of the sauce to you meat mixture before making the meatballs. That should be good.

You need to brown them first in a hot oven or in a skillet, then transfer to the crockpot w/ sauce for them to be cooked thoroughly. If you do not bake/fry them first, they will not get a "crust" on them and will fall apart.

ok my my makes this all the time but she makes sausage and balls in the samething but you brown the meat balls in a pan then cook them in the pot with the pasta sauce or what ever sauce you use and fill it almost to the top (we use franceco rinaldi) and cook on high for 8 hrs when its done keep it on the warm setting and put them in torpedo rools when thay are needed

Is dependent on the context really. Which is better as a snack - fruits personally. It's tastier and gives you that tad of sweetness. Which can be better as a snack if you are trying hard to minimize back on sugar and lose weight vegetables

Make the balls up with whatever you want in them I like some bread crumbs garlic and onion not to many crumbs or the balls will fall apart the you just put the raw balls in the sauce turn the crock on low and see ya in a few hours.
