I think a candy cane fence sounds like a great idea! Maybe you could use different colored candy canes to give it a fun look. And for the outside walkways, i would use gum drops or m&m's or maybe even red or green or any color you like licorice rope. I hope i could help and have fun, i love decorating gingerbread houses!

Twizzlers and candy canes for the fence, lollipops for trees, gum drops and m&ms for the roof, mini marshmallows to look like there is snow on the ground, wafers for doors, peppermint candies, skittles, necco candies for a stone pathway, half of a snickers bar for a chimney, sour patch kids for christmas carrolers..
You can even use cereal too, like fruit loops, coco puffs, rice crispies, or any colorful cereal you have.

Very cute idea to use candy canes to build a fence.
I always buy extra candy and really load up my house.
I use Neccos, M&M's, gum drops, red hots, candy cane sticks, Skittles, Malt Balls, Gobblers, bubble gum balls, wrapped peppermint candies (leave the wrappers on), liccorish whips, even small suckers. Have fun! The sky is the limit.

You're only limited to your imagination!
Candy canes work great, the small ones are probably best.
You can also use gum drops, or peppermint candies for the pathway.

You could use pretzels for the fence.
You could use small square cookies for the walkways, or you could make a cobblestone path with jellybeans and royal icing for the cement.
