My friend told me that if I sign up for the do not mail list, that it will raise my credit 15 points. Also, how do I go on this list?

Your friend is mistaken, being on the do not mail list has nothing to do with your credit score.

This is a list that the credit bureaus sell to marketing people based on scores and lines of credit.

You can opt out by going to www.optoutprescreen.com and following the instructions.

Additional details.

Jake is a moron.

Credit is based on the following 5 factors period.

1. Payment history 35%
2. Time in bureau 15%
3. Types of credit 10%
4. New credit 10%
5. Debt to credit ratio 30%

You will notice debt to income and possible debt is not included because they have nothing to do with your credit score.

Your friend is wrong, do not amil list is strictly for marketing campaign and has nothing to do with credit score.
Credit score is driven by 4 factors.
1. Length of time in credit history
2. Potential debt burden and utilization
3. Recent derogatories (Minor and major)
4. Recent inquiries in the past 12 months.
Hope this helps
