Most people experience gas pain following surgery. Some people have a lot of pain. Walking around or doing other kinds of light activity can often relieve this. Your pain medicine will not relieve gas pain.
Chewing gum can also help with gas. Doing things that would normally make you burp or flatulate also help.
Hang in there. It gets some better every day, but there is no open and shut time of when gas pains will pass. Lapro usually within 21 days. Conventional surgery can be 45 days or more.

I had gall bladder surgery in May and it took about 4 weeks to start lessening the pain.
Part of your question is based on the gall bladder being removed laproscopicly(sorry about the spelling but through the belly button) or via the large incision accross the stomach. Mine was via incision and because the abdominal muscle is cut it is extremely painful. The simple act of getting in and out of bed hurts. If she has had had the full surgery gall bladder operation, the doctors should have given her some drugs to manage the pain. If the pain is considerable, I suggest she ask for a higher dose.
Tell her to hang in there. Keep the surgery site clean. Look for infection. Rub her shoulders gently and try to remove some of her shoulder tension with gentle massage.
Good luck

She needs to eliminate the gas naturally it will come by eating the right foods, fiber enriched foods, the pain usually lasts about 3 to 4 weeks depending on how the operation was performed, if it was by laproscopy about 2 to 3 weeks, if it was conventional surgery where they opened her up completely could take as much as 6 weeks

My BFF had the same surgery (47 yrs. female) about 6 months ago. It took her several weeks to recover, but was doing much better after about 10 days post-op.
