I don't know what kind of dog you have. But fish oil is the best. You put about 1/2oz on their food. Some people use flaxseed oil, but it isn't as effective. I have husky's and this was reccommended by the vet and the husky breeder site.

DO NOT PUT LOTION ON A DOGS SKIN !!!!

I've got no idea what Jergens make - but remember a dog's nose is so much more sensitive than our own - if it's not made with a dog in mind - don't touch it!

Can someone tell coolgurl to accept the fact that every animal needs to maintain their skin . Normally they would do this in the wild by eating an appropriate diet,

Someone has already suggested including a supplement like cod liver oil capsules - fish it should really be a natural oil from a fish or a second best is from a bottle. Alternatively, drain and then mash up some sardines (from a tin) or some other oily fish - add that to the dog food. It's best if it's from real fish though

If this skin condition continues for more than a month - go see a vet. In the UK we have the PDSA (People's Dispensary for Sick Animals) - a charity to help pets and owners in distress. You might have a similar body wherever you are.

I hope this helps

Either use liberal doses of Tea Tree oil after a bath or use the gel from an aloe vera plants leaf after a bath. The bath should be done with organic all-natural pet soap. And the shaking off of the water won't hurt a bit other than the soaking you get. What either of these do is help heal the skin and leaves the dog's hair very shiny and loose, like a dog's hair is supposed to be. Have fun with the bath! You can also mix extra virgin olive oil in with the dry food. This will help the dog's internal systems flush unwanted toxins and help heal within just like it does for a human being.

If you bathe him every week or more then that will definately dry out his skin. So if that's the case, then bathe him every other week and make sure to use a good conditioner. If that's not your problem, then just put some lotion on him. Not the extremely scented kind, but just some regular lotion, like Jergens or something.

I've been told to add a little vegetable oil to my dogs kibble every day to help with that. She seems to like a tablespoon of olive oil. It's been a month and she seems to itch a lot less.

Well I just have to put my 2 cents in and agree with everyone on the board who say put a TBS of oil in their food. It doesn't make a big difference what kind- veggie/olive or fish. Just don't put more than that b/c they can get the runs (LOL) But it will help with the dryness and make his coat sheen.

What we did: Put two cod liver oil tablets on one of their meals everyday. After about 2 weeks, you should see the difference. It also makes their coat feel a lot nicer
