My car is a 1992 Dodge Spirit, manual. If you step really hard on the gas while it is in drive it will move slightly. In reverse it won't move at all. The day before it would work but it would rev real high and then jerk ahead once it slipped into gear, now that doesn't even happen.

I said it was manual, I meant that it is an automatic.

sounds like you may have ran it out of fluid. check the fluid. if it is full, it will probably need a rebuild.

I'm not sure if you have a manual or automatic transmission the way your question is asked. Sounds like an automatic when you speak of drive and reverse, so I'll start there. If it is an automatic you are low on fluid, your transmission is slipping severely or totally inoperative. Sounds like totally inoperative when you say "would rev real high and then jerk ahead once it slipped into gear, now that doesn't even happen". Raise the hood and look into the engine compartment, the transmission is to your right. On the front of the transmission down low is a short stick with a plastic "T" handle marked "trans fluid", I think that's what is imprinted on it, I own two Spirits and at the moment can't remember, Anyway carefully pull the dipstick and check for clear red fluid, if fluid is not visible on the stick, you are low on fluid. Even if fluid is visible you may still have a problem which I think you do. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

the vehicle is nudging ultimate because of actuality that the torque provided with the aid of using the starter is turning the engine that's popping the transmission, that's popping the axles in case you have the grasp out. I doubt heavily that the battery is your impediment on condition that which you in basic terms stated that it cranks good. you have gotten greater advantageous downside. you are able to desire to be certain for spark and gas tension. If the vehicle purely stalled then there's a purely precise possibility which you will have a a foul gas pump. attempt to bang on the gasoline tank with a rubber mallet whilst all and sundry is attempting to the engine. The ask your self of the pounding is sometime sufficient to get the gasoline pump to run as quickly as greater. If all else fails take it to a storage the place they have the full ultimate diagnosing equipment the place they are able to inspect for spark strenght, gasoline tension, and such. desire this permits.

Sounds like you need a new transmission. Probably going to cost about $1000.00 to have it rebuilt.
