why do so many opponents of atheism constantly accuse them of satanic worship? atheism is the absence of worship, worshiping Lucifer is just as far from the concept as worshiping jesus. also as atheists do not believe in god or the bible and therefore the devil. why would anyone worship or be in league with something they don't believe exists?

for the record i'm agnostic

1) Satanism can be divided into 2 types: theistic satanism and philosophical satanism. According to the first satan is an actual being, according to the later satan is the freedom of one's individuality.

Thus we can say that atheists who are not like sheep, are satanic. However that doesn't mean they have anything to do with the Devil who carries a pitchfork, or evil. Some people might get confused about this.

2) Some people believe that Christianity has a very positive affect on people, and makes them like Jesus. So according to that belief, anything that argues against Christianity is "evil and satanic."

Anything or any form of distraction in this world that directs your attention away from God, is basically a tool used by satan no matter what we call it, there is no grey area here you either worship God or you are on the other side, which no matter what you call it is part of satan's plan to separate man from God. I doesn't matter if you believe in God or not, He still exits which brings you under His judgement at His throne and at His mercy. He has devised a plan to thwart the initial disobedience of man and it's the sacrifice of His son, you either accept this mercy or not, its your choice. But I get away from the question, sorry I'm an evanglelist by heart.

It's just another way of demonizing people who don't believe their, er, 'beliefs'.

Nationalists/supremacists do the same thing. Where I grew up, if you spoke to someone with darker skin (i.e African or Middle Eastern), you were often called a 'black-lover' (I'm Caucasian) as if you are betraying their supremacist beliefs, not only that but they imagine I must LOVE 'black' people because I talked to them. Er, no. I don't love or hate anyone because of the colour fo their skin. Neither do I worship or praise anything I don't believe in.

Same thing with fundamentalists, they can't conceive that everyone doesn't think like they do, so hence anything different is inherently 'bad', and anyone who has ANYTHING to do with that 'difference' is also inherently 'bad'.

The 'worship' bit is tacked on because they can't conceive that some people *aren't* worshipful (like them) so they just say assume we all have to worship *something* anyway and include that in the insult.

I consider it to be amusing at best but mostly a sad state of affairs that adults wish to communicate in such a fashion in the 21st Century.

Atheists being satan worshippers is just the xtian's way of explaining why someone does not believe in god. To them, if we don't beleive in god, we must believe in satan.
It's stupid, very stupid, because atheists don't beleive in anything, god or satan.
Atheism is a lack of belief. To say that atheism is some sort of religion, is like saying not playing tennis is some kind of sport.
Calling an atheist a satan worshipper, or using the word satan to describe them based on their lack of belief, just shows how damned stupid some theists really are.

Christians see atheism as Satan's work pulling infidels away from their god. It doesn't mean atheists actually worship Satan, they just assume that Satan is responsible for an atheist's lack of faith.

The reality is that it's not Satan... it's logic and reason.

I agree. Atheists have no concept of spirituality or belief in the afterlife, so how could they "worship" Satan. that being said, from a theist point-of-view - they are doing Satan's work on earth.

Most Atheists would probably be considered Humanist - "worshipping" science and the myth of human decency.

Some stupid religious people don't REALIZE that if you believe in God you also believe in Satan, and vice versa. They don't know what a dictionary is. If they did, they could read the definition of Atheist.

Ignorance abounds in religions that claim to have the only way and have no respect or tolerance for others beliefs.

And just for the record, Satanists do exist and are not exactly what one of the christian faith would assume them to be.!

In the Christian view, there are only two sides, with no ground for neutrality. This is based directly on the words of Christ

(ASV) "He that is not with me is against me, and he that gathereth not with me scattereth. "

That's very clear. An agnostic also falls within the category of "not being with Christ". If someone does not serve God, BY DEFAULT, he/she serves Satan.

That's the Christian's view. You may not agree, and your are entitled to your opinion. But so are Christians.
