That would depend on which tissues are removed . Some tissues can remain unaltered with due care and proper handling and preservation over time. Some tissues are highly delicate and die off in short period in external environment due to cells degeneration and ischemic changes.

For example cardiac (heart) tissues dies off quickly if not handled properly and not well oxygenated. Special preservation (in an ice pack) can usually keep the heart fresh for a maximum of four to six hours. With due time, cells degenerate and ischemic changes can take place with tissues dying off. The same principle applies with other vital organs removed from the body.

Whereas cryopreservation of tissues (such as of sperm, ovarian tissues, embryo,etc.) has recently been progressing in their success and enables many tissues to be preserved and remain with the very least alteration or almost completely unaltered over time.
