"Emotions In Humans" are a "survival and reproduction" success story of Evolution...
They give us our "fight or flight" reflexes, they make us want to reproduce (very much so to the point of almost madness in the males of the species), they make us want very much so to take care of our offspring, they let us "enjoy" life and so see a "purpose" in life and give us "incentive" to continue to reproduce and take care of our offspring...
Without "emotions," high intelligence would quickly figure out that all this is pointless and absurd, and life would not be very much fun, and therefore not a very good "survival and reproductive" strategy...
Woo Yaw!
Rock on...!

Without emotions we would just be a "spock" in the universe.
Seriously? Why do we have hands and feet and eyes etc? Because that is the way the human body has been designed. So why do we have fear, and sadness and happiness? That is the way the human soul has been designed. Why do we have a conscience and values? That is the way the human spirit has been designed.

There are a lot of scientific explanations of what emotions are, eg chemical reactions, etc. But so far, the only good scientific explanation I've seen for "why" we have them is continuation of the species (taking care of infants) and social bonding.
Neither one rules out the possibility of a divine reason, nor do they support it. For that, you have to go to philosophy. And to be honest, I don't see a whole lot there either.
This may be one of those question you have to save for the afterlife.

Emotions allow us to feel things strongly, to relate to others, to enjoy music, to become involved in good causes that help those in need. Community is glued together by emotion. Marriage is bonded by emotion. A relationship to God is felt and bonded by emotion. Survival depends on emotion, because no united front to defend oneself, can happen without emotion. The will to live can be quite emotional. We might be able to act the way emotion dictates, based on reason, since it makes survival sense. But, I don't see reason, without passion, going very far in a crisis. Intuition, that ussually comes with emotion, is how we sense the spiritual and God. It does seem that the need for a connection with God, and the spiritual, has helped our survival. I believe with more intense periods of crisis in the future, we are going to have to pull even more together, as a community of human beings, and our emotions will need to develop even more, as will our connection with the spiritual and God.

You can learn to have greater control over your emotions and this is always a good idea, however we all need to be able to feel some emotion to have empathy with others, empathy and altruism go hand in hand.
Some people seem to lack empathy and these are the ones who kick random people to death for entertainment etc, or those who humiliate others and defame them without thinking of the human cost involved.

Emotion is a difficult trait to nail down. Animals other than humans show what could be interpreted as emotion: dogs show love to their owners, other mammals and birds pairbond.
In evolutionary terms, emotion binds a group together and enhances their chance for survival. There is no need for a higher power in this situation.

All pack Animals show forms of emotion. It is a Chemical process most likely brought about by the need for groups to survive.

Our auras, or countenances, display the feelings and emotions of our souls.
The souls of people are the thoughts of God, as God creates with thoughts. He created and entwine our spirits with our souls.
God is spirit, God has feelings and emotions.... this is where it comes from. We are made in His image, and in His likeness. Although, God's capacity to love, and hurt is larger that ours...He loves more, and He can hurt more. God expresses the way he feels.

Partly to inform us of our moral choices. When we are focused on material things, we fear, worry, fret, feel frustration, feel inadequate, etc. We forget that we cannot control the accidents of life. When we focus on spiritual things, we remain confident, secure, acknowledge, and understand that there are things we cannot control. When we experience negative emotions, we are motivated to take actions to correct our choices

I believe it's both. God designed us through evolution, and part of this design is for us to have emotions.
