Since you have X-rayed the dog, I must assume you are at the Vets and your dog is receiving medical attention. As for the her giving birth to dead puppy/puppies, it is unfortunate, but also common. There was something wrong with the pups and this is Nature's way of dealing with it. Nature may seem cruel, but the same thing happens with women, they miscarry, or have still births. I would have the Vet check out your dog and rule out any possible health problems and then ask if she will be able to carry to full term and deliver healthy pups in the future.
I will add one thing though, unless you are specifically breeding the dog as a Business, I would have her spayed, there is an over population of cats and dogs.
GOOD LUCK, I hope this turns out ok for you and your dog.

I have gone through a similar thing. My dog had four puppies (small litter for her), she continued to push with no results. When i took her to the vet, they took an xray and it showed another pup inside, so they gave her a shot to increase the strengh of the contractions, but they also kept her in the clinic throughout this ordeal to watch her. It turned out that she had a twist in her uterus and no amount of drugs could have moved the pup. An ultrasound won't show this. She had to have a c-section to deliver the last pup. Your vet should not have released your dog, especially after giving her a drug for the first time. I suggest you take your dog to another vet, ASAP. After 7hrs she has definatly lost the puppies life and she is also suffering the first stages of blood poisening. TSS. toxic shock syndrome. You don't need to be a vet to know that 7hrs is far too long for labour in an animal, instinct makes them birth as quick as they can.

I hope the puppy is not in distress. The vet should be observing this birth at their clinic. Never mind has anyone gone thru this same stage before - every birth is different and you cannot be complacent or hesitate. If you want another dead puppy on your hands just keep doing what you are doing. Your dog needs attention now!!!!!!!!!

You need to get another vet now if your vet says that it is alright for a ***** to go 7-8 hours between puppies!! That is just crazy. If she has not delivered, she is in trouble now. Go to the emergency ER now! She might need a c-section, you better not wait or you could lose the entire litter and her. Now is the time to think about saving your girls life!! Is she even contracting? Uterine intertia is a big deal! Go to the ER vet or like the poster above me said, dig a grave! Taking her to the vet again will not be for a check up. Geesh, she is in trouble. How dare you let a girl go through this?
OK looking for that question now.

hopefully your mention of an x ray means you have taken her to the vet i think you should either keep her at the vet or take her back right away, i wish you all the best, after this pup is born, if your not a licensed breeder please desex your pet. desexing will guarantee this situation will never happen again and she will live a longer, happier healthier life.

When this happened to my dog the puppies all died as they were too big for her to deliver, the vet then recommended we have her spayed. She was pregnant in the first place because she was a rescue. So she was only carrying 2 puppies? Seems like a small litter. You didn't say what breed she is or her age. I know it is common for some breeds to have small litters and I also know it is common for a young female to have stillborn. I am sorry you are having to go through this heart retching experience & bless you for seeking prompt medical care for her.

Get her to the vet the remaining pup may be to big depending on the breed, she may need a c-section. Or she may need a shot to make her contract harder. Would help to know the breed....Good luck.

cool down, you may sense his coronary heart beat and notice his little chest flow up and down. call the SPCA or the animal guard. A domestic dog of that age will prefer 24 hour care to stay to tell the story.
