You can't go wrong with a Toyota Camry, just make sure the timing belt has been recently (within 25,000 miles) changed. Other than that you can buy it with a 4 cylindar engine, better on gas mileage. I bought mine off of ebay 5 years ago and it currently has over 169,000 miles on it! Good luck.

How cheap?
If you can afford $15k, buy a Prius! Milage is amazing and you'll save tons on gas money, insurance is cheaper and you get a few discounts when buying a hybrid car.

You don't say what country you are in. The smallest, cheapest, most fuel efficient car in the US is the Chevrolet Aveo.

A Smart Fortwo maybe? Small car, small engine, and it got good handling. I dunno about the price though, maybe get a used smart car!
