I use both. Kodak is a good starter camera or one you can keep int the car or pocket at all times. they are simple to use and understand for beginner's.

I also have Canon eos 400d. To be honest if you are going to just use your pics on your computer and resize them accordingly then there is little difference. On the other hand if you want to take off large prints then the canon is for you.

First of all, the higher the megapixel are does not always means better picture quality so a 6-7 megapixel camera can be a lot better than a 12 megapixel camera, so you're on the right track.

Basically a Canon is the best choice for pocket camera nowadays because unlike the Kodaks or the Nikons, a lot of Canon pocket camera have optical viewfinder (in case you're shooting under the sunlight which make the LCD hard to view, or you want to save up battery life), and it has manual mode so you can get creative or deal with situation where the automatic situation can't handle.

Check the Canon Powershot A570 IS - it's one of the best valued pocket camera currently around.

Pleeeeeease do not buy a Kodak. A lot of camera shops in Australia won't sell them anymore. They take a good photo but the after sales service is absolutely terrible, and you can't get spare parts as easily as Canon. Canons are compatible with everything and are easy to use. Sounds like you have a bucketload to spend so I'd go talk to a few professionals for their advice about which model. I'd go for one that has an automatic function but gives you manual control if you want it. You want a decent optical zoom, maybe image stabilization and consider buying some lens filters. Have fun!

I like my Kodak. It's only 5.0 MP but it's easy to use, and the software was easy to install.
They have higher resolution cameras, but for my purposes, mainly snap shots of kids and dogs, parties etc, it's perfect.
Cannon is also a well know and respected brand.
On this purchase I would suggest a camera store, rather than the big box. The people at the camera store will be knowledgeable on all brands and be able to guide you, to the best camera in your budget.

Kodak cameras are on the low end of the price and quality scale. Kodak was better at making film and film processing supplies.
I would buy a Canon. I am sure the quality is better.

Canon (if Kodak is the other choice).

Otherwise NIKON is the BEST.

However, if you want to limit yourself to 7 MP then SONY is the ideal brand. Its sleek and handy and will fit in your hip pocket.
