I'm in this wierd phase in my life. I'm 22, and I've been thinking alot about how someone would write a biography on my life. I think my biggest fear is not death, but the idea of no longer existing.

Death sounds relaxing and kind of like silence...but not-existing has this certain chaos where you are no longer part of the world, and therefore can no longer experience the things that happen or give anything back to the world.

I'm not one for poetry or philosophy, but I'm starting to realize that I'm mortal and not invincible. Someday my biography will be written and there will be nothing I can do to change it.

Yeah, I understand what you are saying. Death isn't scary, after all, when you're dead you are unaware. But the idea of life going on without me is scary; not being able to accomplish everything I want to, not living a long, full life. Definitely scary.

I'm not bothered by it at all, because I believe there is life after death. Everyone has a soul that lives on forever after they die. The body is mortal but the soul is immortal.

It's not so much the not-existing part that I find disturbing, it's the possibility that nobody will care that I'm gone.

the self must also die;
but glory never dies,
for the man who is able to achieve it."

You've already experienced nonexistence. Before you were born you didn't exist, so if you cease to exist in the future, it will feel exactly like that. When I think about it like that, it doesn't frighten me.

Sounds like you are more worried about not being remembered than non existence.
Do something meaningful with your life, have many friends and be kind. You will be remembered.

it's kind of like your face in a puddle of water. the face from the puddle staring at you is the real world and if the puddle disappears, you go with it.

sounds weird...

Not really, what disturbs me is a the stupid people that are existing now.

It isn't the not existing that bothers me - its knowing that my family won't have me around anymore.
