I would not be too concerned. All children develop at different ages in different ways, my daughter also began speaking a few months before turning 1. My mate has a 2 year old boy and a 1 year old girl and i have noticed that her daughter says just as many words as her son ei, mum, dad and a few other words. I personally believe that girls develop quicker with their speech than boys. Keep an eye on his development and spend as much time as you can practicing words. I have found repetitive teaching is the best way to get results with tots. Good luck, and all the best with your little one.

It is normal. Neither of my 2yo son's spoke until they were 20 months. Only little things like Dada, Muma, Bones (my dog, but they call him Dones lol)
One of my boys is 80% deaf and the other has perfect hearing, they just didn't want to talk. It wasn't from lack of trying on our behalf either, we contently spoke and read to them.
Then at 20 months they decided they were clever! My eldest is seeing a speech pathologist to help him. She is excellent. To get my boy seeing that speech is a good thing we are encouraging the word MORE.
If he wants a drink or more food, we always repeat the word. If he wants more games we encourage the word. It is one of those word where they receive praise for and encourages more words to follow.
You could give that a go. After only 3 days of using it with an 80% deaf child he is starting to come out a bit more. He also is very shy, they both are.
I hope I helped. Best Wishes!!

hi i wouldn't worry too much i have twins, 1boy 1girl. so i have been able to see the differences in there development over time. my daughter has done everything before my son, but he was always not to far behind her. they are now 7 and are both doing really well in separate classes. my only advice is at 3 years of age if there is still no talking then i would get him assessed by a speech pathologist. i hope this has made you feel a little better. :)

All children do things at their own pace. I had one who was speaking in complete sentences at 15 months but she didn't walk until she was two. I had others who walked at 8 and 9 months but didn't start saying words until they 2 and 3. Each child is an individual and will do things at their pace.
So yes it is normal for him! Remember, Einstein didn't talk until he four, but he could already read. When asked he said there was nothing he needed to say!

sure frequently youthful people think of older each and every person is hassle-free minded, while in fact, theyve survived existence and the greater youthful people have not have been given any thought what that takes. Societies as quickly as respected their elders for their information. lots may well be discovered approximately existence, from older people. some are authentic ditzy tho, I gotta admit. A strategies is a poor element to waste.. and a few people retire and placed their strategies on cruise administration.

I did worry about this with my baby who's almost 13 months. She can say what sounds like "hiya alright" "mama" "dad" & "bum" they are repeated words though.
If i ask her "wheres your nose?" she points to her nose so i know she understands. I think more towards the age of 2yrs will be when they have a better grasp of speaking so its too soon to worry yet.

He should start to say "Mama" and "Dada" soon. My son is 17mths and doesn't realy talk yet either. People tell me boys are lazy and they will talk a little later. I'm still waiting to see if that's true or not.

Sure, don't worry. All kids learn at their own pace. My son hardly said anything at one, but now he's 14 months and he won't shut up! He walks around the house saying "mama, dada, baba, woof, woof, stop it!" Your son may just grow up to be the strong silent type.

Be afraid not, mommy! It's just normal...Kids are not all the same as they develop and grow...There are kids that speak words as late as 3 years old...My nephew is one but he's a normal kid....He's already four but he just still can't speak clearly like my other nieces and nephews...His mother and father were like that too so I attribute it to genes...(",)
