King David. He wrote alot of music for his musicians.
Northstar's answer is quite exhaustive coming from Atlantic Baptist University's website.
Wikipedia's description on Psalms can be improved much, with this information.
Punter?
None of that was the question. Why'd you stretch the page out? Com'on, now. You did the same thing to one of my pages last night. You start giving all of this information that has nothing to do with what is being asked. : )

Many psalms list the author in the heading. For example, Psalm 19 was written by David, Psalm 75 by Asaph, and Psalm 90 by Moses. Other psalms, such as Psalm 1 and Psalm 150, do not list an author. David may have written at least some of these, since 2 Samuel 23:1 calls him "the sweet psalmist of Israel."
2 Timothy 3:16 says, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God..." or is, literally, "God-breathed." This would make the ultimate author God Himself.

It is believed that many of the Psalms were authored by David. Some of them are unknown. This is why many people say "the psalmist" when they are describing the author, because they aren't sure.

Not all of the Psalms claim authorship, but some have claimed David, Solomon, and even Moses as authors, among others.
