I feel obliged to answer this question, in light of the previous answer that said 'they act like tiny magnifying glasses...etc etc.' First of all, no, absolutely not, they will not burn the back of your eye even if you don't look at the sun. I'm sad that an 'eye surgeon' would post an answer like that on here. Plus, when you increase the minus power of a lens, it increases minification......NOT magnification.

So, you're nearsighted, with a glasses Rx of -4.25. That means the correct contact lens Rx for you is probably a -4.00. If you were to wear a pair of -5.00's, yes, that is too much power for your eyes. It might give you a pretty good sized headache, dry and/or sore eyes, but no permanent damage. Now, if you're going to wear them for an hour or three for a party?.....not a big deal. You'll be able to see (with some focusing effort), but you might need some Advil when the party's over. But, don't wear them long term. Only wear the correct prescription for your eyes when it comes to your regular contact lenses. See your doctor to be fit with the correct contact lenses.

No, you can't. Absolutely not!!

When you wear contacts that are stronger than you prescription, they exceed your vision and act as tiny magnifying glasses on your eyeballs. I've seen patients that have worn stronger contacts outside during daylight and literally burned their retinas just by looking towards the sun, not even directly at it. It's excruciatingly painful and will blind you for life.

You can physically insert them, yes, but you will not be able to see well and probably get killer eye-strain and a mega headache. You may also not be able to keep your balance. i wouldn't do it.
