Yep - it just ends. I didn't have a pre-life before I was born. There is absolutely no reason to think I'd need an afterlife after I'm dead. That is very comforting - true peace.
Atheists live our lives to the fullest, and cherish moments with our loved ones, because we know this life is all there is. Theists might want to try it sometime.

People have always had a sincere interest in the future. There is a universal and historical belief in life after death. Evidence (rituals) around the world reveals that people do not believe death ends all. These questions are frequently asked: Where are the dead? Is there a place of paradise? Is there a place of suffering? What is it like?
Let’s understand that man is a tripartite being, that is, he is composed of three parts - body, soul and spirit. I Thessalonians 5:23. The first part is material being, the other two are non-material. With a spirit man is capable of God-consciousness; with a soul he is capable of self-consciousness; with a body he is capable of world-consciousness. Only God's Word can divide between the soul and the spirit. Hebrews 4:12.
Now, at the time of death, the soul and spirit leave the body. The body is put into the grave. In the case of believers, the body is described as sleeping, Acts 7:59, 60; 8:2, while the unsaved person's body is spoken of as dead. The soul and spirit never sleep. If the person who died was saved, the soul and the spirit go to a place of joy and happiness – heaven. II Corinthians 5:8; Phil. 1:21- 23. If the person was unsaved, the spirit and soul go to a place of sorrow and punishment - hell. In Luke 16:19-31, our Lord clearly teaches that those who have died are conscious.
Death is not soul sleep. The word in Scripture, concerning the death in Christ, means, “rest.” It does not mean “unconsciousness.” The body may die, but the soul and spirit are fully awake and will never die. Death in the Bible always means separation. Physical death is separation of the soul and spirit from the body. Spiritual death is eternal separation from God.
Understand we are not a body, having a soul and spirit, but we are a soul and spirit possessing a body. Death simply means, “I have left my body.”

Nothing in nature ceases to exist it only changes form. We have been created to be eternal beings.Jesus Christ died and rose again and He said in ( Revelation 1:18- John 6:57 - John 14:2)"I am He that liveth, and was dead: and behold I am alive forevermore...Because I live ye shall live also...I go to prepare a place for you" (heaven)
Revelation 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. In Ezekiel 33:11 God says" I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked"Joseph stiles once said" Fix your eyes upon the very vilest sinner upon earth. Though death, this instant pass him up to heaven-with all his lust, and lies, and hate, and devilish heart-can he be happy there? Our immoral nature requires a place called hell. The effects of our sins are everlasting and so is the punishment for them.On the other side of our last breath, there is life after death, and the Question is, where will you spend yours?

I believe that our spirit often leaves our body at night when we sleep, travels in the spiritual realm, and returns again when we wake. Dream seem real at times, because they are, but in the spiritual realm. When we die, a similar thing happens, the dreams may be more intense at death, but we are without body, and must after sometime in this spiritual realm, find a body that meets all our requirements, and start another cycle of life. The spiritual sense of intuition, if developed, will tune you into the spiritual. You will feel and sense, the reality of that which is spiritual, vast and eternal. Meditation/pray, mind-body exercises, healthy eating, not overindulging, and openness to all good inspiration from all sources, helps one to sense that which is spiritual.

the soul is energy. energy can not be destroyed but it can change. the soul leaves the body and will remember everything it has ever seen. when you are born a vail is put over your souls face so you cant remember past lives and have to make choices in this one. as you grow you automatically start making choices. but inside everyone knows truth. everyone knows right from wrong.

It doesn't end. Within you is a spirit that makes you alive beyond your physical being. It is the part of you that has the ability to reason and think which scientist (like myself) would like to tell you is a brain. However, a brain would choose to run when faced with certain death in a battle or seige but a spirit will drive a soldier to death to protect his homeland. The brain would seek to hide and find peace but a spirit fights to the end. Kill a mans brain and you disable him, kill a mans spirit and he's dead.
For this reason, you have two choices, heave or hell. If you don't choose the choice is made for you, hell. Hell is fire and brimestone for your spirit eternally but heaven is "life" and more abuntantly than you have here. No need for food, no need for water, no need for anything, for it will be spiritual life for eternity IF you confess your sins to God through Jesus Christ His Son and ask Christ to come into your heart, lead, and guide you. If you pray this pray to the God of heaven and believe it with all your heart, the Bible says He (Jesus) will come to dewell in your heart (join up with your spirit) and protect you eternally forever. WOW, amazing isn't it? If you choose this path and remember you hae to choose for it you don't the decision is already made for hell because of having not ask, but if you do choose this path, look me up at the corner of Love Avenue and Hallejuh Streets in Heaven and say, "Hey Doc, it's me, I asked the question at Yahoo, remember?" I will remember and have you join our singing party :o) BTW, what I tell you here is scriptually correct in the Bible, The Word Of God. God Bless! Da'Doc

There is only one answer to this: "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
Of course it doesn't just end. There is a purpose to life, and that is to glorify God. He loved you and gave himself for you.
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
If you trust in Him, death is only a brief separation (absent from the body, present with the Lord), and you will have peace like you've never known before.
My father passed away 23 years ago, and I know I will see him again, he's waiting in Heaven for me.

It can, i.e. it's possible as we know our bodies and minds cease working.
Yet I truly believe that there's more to us than just this physical body, and that part of us will carry on...
I read an article a while ago about NDE. It really touched me, because it is so much in line with what I believe as a Christian. I've typed it up in a blog entry, here: http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-EnNdfhAwRKQgjDedjVEpYA--?cq=1

The worms crawl in, the worms crawl out, you know? Sorry. The development of self-awareness, memory and abstract thought is the greatest survival trick yet, but for the individual, it's a temporary deal to be enjoyed while it lasts.
The point is that we can plan and communicate across generations, enabling the species of humanity to have more say in its destiny. We don't get to see how it all comes out, but most of us get to see enough. Then our turn is over and someone else gets to play. It's okay, really. We won't miss it at all.
