Well its not automatic.

God has to send his angels to escort people to their destination.

Jesus talked about this process in Luke chapter 16:

Note that this is about real people and its not a parable:

The Rich Man and Lazarus

19"There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. 20At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores 21and longing to eat what fell from the rich man's table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.
22"The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23In hell,[a] where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. 24So he called to him, 'Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.'

25"But Abraham replied, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. 26And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.'

27"He answered, 'Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my father's house, 28for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.'

29"Abraham replied, 'They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.'

30" 'No, father Abraham,' he said, 'but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.'

31"He said to him, 'If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.' "

Now, at the time of death, the soul and spirit leave the body. The body is put into the grave. In the case of believers, the body is described as sleeping, Acts 7:59, 60; 8:2, while the unsaved person's body is spoken of as dead. The soul and spirit never sleep. If the person who died was saved, the soul and the spirit go to a place of joy and happiness – heaven. II Corinthians 5:8; Phil. 1:21- 23. If the person was unsaved, the spirit and soul go to a place of sorrow and punishment - hell. In Luke 16:19-31, our Lord clearly teaches that those who have died are conscious.

Death is not soul sleep. The word in Scripture, concerning the death in Christ, means, “rest.” It does not mean “unconsciousness.” The body may die, but the soul and spirit are fully awake and will never die. Death in the Bible always means separation. Physical death is separation of the soul and spirit from the body. Spiritual death is eternal separation from God.

ecc 9 v 5 For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing, and they have no more reward, for the memory of them is forgotten.

So this clearly states that the state of the dead is that they know nothing, so have no conscious thoughts. How would this be the case if they were living in heaven?

What the great hope of man is, is through Jesus and the promise of a reserection. That upon Judgment day, we will be reserected at that time, not heaven/hell going upon death.

Psalm 49 v15. But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave, for he shall receive me.

There is also another couple of verses I would like to consider..... Psalms 49 v 19 & 20. They state as follows.
He shall go to the generation of his fathers; They shall never see the light.
A man who is in honor, yet does not understand, is like the beasts that perish.

According to the Bible anybody that dies goes no further than the ground(underground to be exact{grave})Here is what the Bible says:"As the [beast dies. so the [man] dies; and they all have but one spirit...All are going to one place. They have all come from the dust, and they are all returning to the dust."(Ecclesiastes3:19,20) There is no mention here of a fiery hell. Humans return to dust-to non-existence when they die.
In order to be tortured, an individual would have to be conscious. Are the dead conscious? No."The living are consciuous that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the rememberance of them has been forgotten."(Ecclesiastes9:5) It is impossible for the dead,"conscious of nothing at all,"to experience the agonies of hellfire or the pleasures of heaven.

i don't have faith in Heaven and Hell. yet Christians don't have faith you flow there in the present day. once you die you sleep interior the floor till the tip of the worldwide, Judgement Day. At that element, all of us who's ever lived and died would be judged, all on the same time, and God will separate the sheep from the goats. (So in Heaven there will be heat sweaters for all, and in Hell they're going to have great chevre cheese!) yet once you're worried approximately long strains on Judgment Day, i'm no longer worried approximately that (I mean i would not be worried if i presumed it). Our government is extremely sluggish and inefficient, and we keep it that way on purpose so human beings won't have faith the administrative. or prefer it to sparkling up issues. government at each and every point suffers from continual underfunding, because of the fact if somebody is going to the DMV or city corridor or the submit workplace and that they do no longer would desire to attend in line for a million/2 an hour, they sense the administrative. is dropping their money. it extremely is frequently the doing of Republicans who're anti-government and prefer our society to be controlled by applying firms rather. yet fortuitously, no longer many Republicans are going to heaven. So the administration and forms is extra powerful and powerful. So the strains will flow extraordinarily rapid.

There are two great commandments, "love the Lord thy God with all your strength," and "Love your neighbor as yourself." People who have love will not lose their salvation even if they do not know Jesus, unless they have met and rejected him.
That having been said, when people die their souls continue to live. If they lived in love, they will live hereafter in exquisite love. If they lived in hate, they will live in hatred forever. They are not "sent" but have chosen their path by the way they have lived their lives on earth. The difference is that after death they will know what they have lost or gained by living the way they did and for those who have chosen badly, that knowledge will be the torment or "fire" of hell.

The bible is clear that if you accept The Lord Jesus Christ as the Messiah and confess it you will go Heaven. "No man cometh to the Father, except through me" Jesus's words.

On the other hand if you don't then hell is the option. There is no neutral ground.
