Something tells me Bear's "roughing it" isn't quite as rough as Les Stroud's version. Bear actually takes a lot of unsafe chances and works more for entertainment value than for just pure suvival instruction.

That being said, the best way to "wipe" is to us a leaf. But you'll want to find a couple of leaves, crush them so the sap/resin flows and rub them in different areas on your body (i.e. run one on your left forarm, some on your right bicep, etc). Remeber which leaf you rub in which area. Then wait a little while and see if a rash develops from the sap. If none occurs, those types of leaves are safe to wipe with.

Seem's like I saw Les do that on a show, but couldn't be sure.

He probably uses leaves unless he has thought ahead and brought some paper. I always carry a couple small pocket size packages of Kleenex when I am in the woods. He's bound to have done as much preparation as I do. Hey, if this is important to you, you might try writing directly to him in care of the Discovery channel.

Since he has a camera crew with him the entire length of his journey, I highly doubt it that he has to "rough" it too bad. I believe that he puts on the show for the camera. Try Les Stroud Survivorman.
