Never shot a Mauser. Have shot Mosin Nagant 91/30's and M44's. Some Russian, some Romanian. They have a kick that's significant. For $100 rifles, they can be a deal. Unlikely you'd get a K98 in reasonable shape for less than $200.

I have a Yugo M48A Mauser and a Russian M44 Mosin. The Mauser well you know shes there when you shoot. But the M44 is alot louder and kicks harder.

I also own both, and as others have stated the recoil is about the same. The M44 puts out a nice fireball that will scare the heck out of guys that are shooting next to you at the range.

I own both, my M44 tends to kick slightly more than my K98 but really it doesn't matter to me and I don't notice it.

They are both manageable, not uncomfortable, or severe.*
