Do other religions provide useful perspectives for understanding ones faith or instead are threats, temptations, and/or abominations?

i think all religion is an abomination. religion tries to keep human kind from reaching their full potential. most religions would love for us to return to the dark ages.

What a great question! My personal belief is that only good can come from studying other religions. It helps you to see how you are similar to other people in the world, and how everyone uses religion to comfort themselves in their own existence.

The more you become familiar with the beliefs of others (even while holding on to your own), the more you'll be able to see common themes and beliefs, and it serves to improve human connectivity.

Avoiding other religions and other religious beliefs at all costs means that you're selling yourself short in your own faith, because how can you be certain that you have chosen the best faith for you if you aren't aware of what your options are?

But worse than that, avoiding coming to some understanding about other faiths means that you are continuing the sense of "us" versus "them," which is the very basis of strife and conflict in this world.

It's so much easier to dehumanize and harm another person when you resist the natural human tendency to try to understand your fellow human beings.

The more you study World Religions, the more you'll see we are all attempting to explain the human experience. We have different ideas of what that means, but you will definitely see a lot of ideas that either cross over or are perspectives you never thought about before.

If a person is worried about threats to their faith, then they are worried their faith might not be correct. People that worry about learning others' faiths are simply admitting this without realizing it.

You can learn a lot from other faiths and still remain in your own faith. You might even switch your faith. But if you're a Christian, we must remember what Scripture promises us. That if we seek God, we will find God. So never be afraid to see how God is working in other areas outside your own ideas. You don't have to agree with their views to see God's work.

Religions in general provide me with understanding of the human condition. They provide me with perspectives of how fear gets transmorgified into deities and their motivations.
