They sell tops to put on the soda bottles at the dollar stores- they are cheap but they screw on the top and flip closed and more secure than the plastic ones they come with.

Close the cap tight and stop buying such large bottles. Buy individual cans or smaller bottles instead. Individual cans and bottles of soda are more expensive, but hey what do you want? Do you want fresh soda or flat and stale soda?

Those large bottles of soda are made to be used very quickly and to serve a lot of people at parties, etc.. They are not for storage after opening.

The trick is to keep the air tight seal that the bottle had before you opened it. Just screwing on the cap a bit tighter can help a little but the most effective way is to jump online and buy a vaccum sealer for jars, bottle etc. try www.foodsaver.com

cap needs to be as tight as possible and store it in a cold place, heat makes it go flat.

Just keep it cold or in the fridge, becasue heat makes the particles escape that gives it a fizz, so it will go flat...make sure its cold.!
