To become an officer from the civilian ranks, you have to have a 4 years degree before you become an officer.
To become an officer from the enlisted ranks, you have to have 3 years of college toward a degree program and be able to complete your degree within one year of being commissioned.
That's for Active duty military.
The National Guard has it's own rules.
You do not need a 4 year degree to be an officer in the National Guard.
As late as 1991, you could be directly commissioned in the Tennessee National Guard, if you had combat experience as an E-5 or above.
I don't know if that still applies today.
I'm sure other states had similar programs.
And of course, you do not need a 4 year degree to become a Warrant officer.

No, you actually only need a associates year degree with the mindset of getting a bachelors before you make Capt, if they wouldn't try to get the bachelors they can not go any further in there career as a officer. That, is how the army works. The other services I am not sure about, but no matter what you do need a associates, to become a officer.

Warrant Officers do not as yet require a 4 year degree, although there has been talk of that changing. same with the Navy's LDO program, but of you want to get past O3 you'd better have at least a 2 year degree.

Affirmative. With a 4 year degree you can be commisioned as an officer beginning at O-1, or you could elect to enlist and start as an E-4. Specialties get you better signing bonuses and benefits. also helps to be married, and a woman.

Yes, better to have the degree before you go in.
Also, don't enlist, go in as an officer because sometimes they will promise, but you will be locked in as am enlisted person.
I have seen people who went in and were promised that they would become officers after boot camp. Don't buy it.

As far as I know you still need a 4 years college degree to become an officer in any branch of the military. I suppose in wartime it is possible for a noncommissioned officer to get a field commission.

happened n world war 2. ran out of officers. killed faster than they doud make them. they called them field commisions, thus you are a commissioned office. they did that to audy murphy in ww2. made him hero later. becametheir poster boy then he got into movies. shot a lot of germans and single-handed took a german tank and then used the machine gun to keep back the german infantry. pretty cool. make a mvie about it. nowit is because enough wont volunteer and they are getting 5.000 a week or month deserting. but canada would not take them the article in nyt said.
