Like most of the bible he would be metaphor. If it weren't for the Hellenistic and Zoroastrian mythology intermingling with the Hebrew mythology he never would have existed.

Satan is a metaphor for human evil.
I am a modern satanist. So here is my definition of Satan
Satan - Satan represents everything life should be. In The Satanic Bible, LaVey states SATAN represents Indulgence, Vital Existence, Undefiled Wisdom, Kindness to those who deserve it, Vengeance, Responsibility, Man as just another Animal, and All of the so-called Sins. Freewill, Freethinking, and a Free lifestyle is actually ANTI-Church. The church does NOT want you to stray from their teachings and their money plate. If you start to think for yourself, and life for yourself, you're a devil worshipper. SATAN is just the word for some boogieman they needed to keep their sheep from going astray. The being/deity/entity "Satan" was made up by the Christians to take the fall for their sins, pleasure, wrong doings, etc... They needed someone to be their scape goat. When Christianity came into play, the EXISTING GODS of the Egyptians, Indian, Greeks, etc.. were all turned into Devil's. The Literal being/deity/entity simply DOES NOT exist. I am sure you can ask a Christian and they would say he exists, something has to be the reasoning behind their fears

Satan [ Rev.12:9; all he is called ] is real. He was anointed over Eden and we are an extention of that Eze.28:13-15;
All is LOST in Eden to be SAVED by Jesus, so how much time is Satan allowed with us in the world we are lost and dying in with the promise of bring SAVED.
Does Satan have 6130 years? Adam was 6073 years ago in Eden.
Does Jesus have 1000 years & no Satan? Rev.20:1-6,12,13;
PEOPLE HAVE TO GO THE THE BIBLE AND SEE WHAT IT SAYS.

Satan is a Hebrew word meaning "opposer". Anyone who opposes the good of mankind is by definition a Satan, a living entity which opposes acting for the benefit of others.

A literal entity of evil. Who do you think God talked to about Job in the book of Job. A metaphor?

Satan is mention by name in the Hebrew Bible (aka the Tanakh); he is an agent of God, created by God for a specific purpose. He is not an enemy of God, but a "roadblock" created by God to help mankind grow and learn. He is not an evil force (indeed, we do not believe there is an evil force external to man), but is ultimately a positive force because we learn as a result of his God-directed actions.
Satan is NOT the Christian "devil," by the way. There's no mention of the "devil" in the Tanakh. Satan is mentioned as a proper name in several places, and the word s'tan is translated as the "adversary," "obstacle," or "stumbling block" in MANY other instances in that work.
While I'm personally not entirely comfortable with the idea, and feel that much of what is written about Satan is metaphorical in nature, I do agree with the idea that Satan is NOT an evil being, but a creation of God, whether real or a metaphor for the challenges we all face in life.

if your talking about it in a religious sense then it is a metaphor... religion is a way of explaining things that we don't understand... most things that are considered "evil" are understood, so i vote metaphor...
now... evil as an idea is just that.... evil... it's a word used to describe something someone considers terrible... here i would say it is being used literally...

A mythological character made up and used by people who don't want to take responsibility for their own thoughts and actions. Before Christians hijacked the word as a name for their scapegoat and gave him god-like powers and status, 'satan' was a life force (NOT a being) meaning 'inner adversary'. Nobody else believes in him.

METAPHOR.
To think of Satan as a litteral entity would be naieve.
If so, then Eve was made from the rib of god... which means.. god has a body, eyes, skin, organs..bones...??
So what, god is a huge, floating, invisable man in the sky?
No. God is everything. God is love.
The Bible is not to be taken litteraly. But.. hey, lets all believe theres a horned little red thing.. why not giants and fairies aswell?
