Meaning a saying or philosophy that involves God, Heaven, Hell, the apocalypse/end times, etc.

You can't pick something like "Blessed are the peacemakers" because "they will be called children of god".

You can't pick anything that's about the Kingdom of Heaven.

You can't pick anything that's an allegory for something like say the parable of the mustard seed, which is an allegory for faith and stuff - unless it is brilliant outside a super natural context.

To an atheist, is Jesus a useful philosopher, or everything he says predicated upon God and the supernatural?

I say Jesus doesn't have much wisdom to share, unless you believe in Heaven and Hell.

The Golden Rule and love thy neighbor is Old Testament, not original to Jesus.

Asker: If you don't believe Jesus was the Son of God, then why do you think a man asking his father to forgive someone involves God?

I believe that Jesus was indeed a very spiritual man...The son of God? no! The most brilliant thing he ever passed on was the "golden rule". Do unto others as you would have them do unto you", and with that "Love your neighbor as yourself".

oh, I beg to differ....Jesus has a lot of Wisdom. infact Jesus had a way with words. ever read any of the Bible? you should. Jesus was an exceptional speaker, and of course he would have to be since he was preaching to thousands of people all over. otherwise no one would listen....who would want to listen to a man who was ignorant? and I think Jesus had charisma as well....someone who would draw you in, and command attention when he walked in the room. as for something brilliant he said, well you should read the Bible.

I think the philosophy of "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" is a great and noble truth, regardless of the divinity of the dude that said it, or if he ever managed to stroll on a lake.
