I went to New York City for the 1st time about 2 years ago and visited Ellis Island. I myself am adopted from Korea and fully realize the opportunities growing up in the U.S. has given to me. I'm very grateful for that and believe in the "American drean." I was so moved standing there on Ellis Island thinking of how many people came through there with all their hopes and dreams of making their lives better in America.

I'm all for LEGAL immigration. Our country was based on a cultural mix and it's in our best interest to maintain that heritage. But I find it incredible how much people feel sorry for and support illegal immigrants to the point of pressuring politicians to give them rights, letting them drive, paying for medical expenses, etc. They are here ILLEGALLY. What part of illegal do people not understand? The U.S. has a proper way of going about becoming a citizen. People who get away with coming here illegally are slapping others in the face who come here legally

I certainly sympathize with these people. It's not like I'm heartless. But it just sends a very bad message. That you can sneak across the border and well....that's ok. What does everyone else think? Am I alone in my thinking?

I think we need to give them a way to work for citizenship. Don't deport them, mainly because that is a lot of money being tossed down the drain. But also don;t just hand them citizenship. Make them earn it.

And i also feel that we need to let more people in legally and work with Mexico and other countries to keep people there and also work with Mexico to secure our borders.

You said it!!!! See everything you just said is what people who are Against illegal immigration are complaining about, and the crime rates, the property values, the gangs, the schools being overloaded, the lack of work for others who are here Legally. People who are against illegal immigration are not necessarily racist, some are, but Most are Not racist..It really burns our butts when people try to use the race card against us. Coming here illegally also shows that those coming here have No respect for the citizens of this country, do not really want to be here, have no real desire to be citizens of this country, and just want to use us to make their own lives more comfortable. Now, I'm all for a comfortable life but not if it means breaking the laws and screwing other peoples lives up!

If you would visit the southern border cities you would see why almost everyone is against illegals from mexico in this country, every person that came from another country and became a legal citizen has embrace the american way of life and blended into the melting pot, mexicans want to keep their own language their own laws their own flags and their loyalty to their own government in mexico
Beansave, how can anyone work with the mexican government on securing the border, when it's the mexican government that is sending them here

Look the world is not perfect and cannot be perfected. What's going on is an unfortunate fact but a fact that can be addressed properly to the benefit of the country and the illegal immigrants. Many of these illegal immigrants enter the country for the same aspirations as those who came here from Europe and other parts of the world. It is unfortunate that they had to enter illegaly...just as unforunate as Africans had to be shipped like animals here to America to be slaves. But given our history and what has developed African Americans are now our equal brothers and sisters. Different time period and story but similiar concept. I'm not encouraging illegal immigration but I am for helping those who went through days and nights, tears and hunger, to come to this country to share the American dream. What I am for is stronger border security and patrol to reduce illegal immigration, maybe even a fence like the Apartheid Wall in Zionist Israel, who knows. This issue of illegal immigration is really no different than the many others we've had in our history. It is only so popular because it is happening during our lifetime. If slavery was still going on today it would probably would trump illegal immigration.

Some of them came here illegally due to desperate circumstances. If it came to my family surviving, there's little I wouldn't do, including crossing a border illegally.

Whether we're compassionate or bitter toward these people is irrelevant. The fact is that they continue to emigrate from their countries of origin because they can't survive the economic conditions there. Our capitalist system rewards them for working here, and rewards our corporations for hiring them. It's been happening for centuries, and our government knowingly perpetuates it.

Read up on your history, rather than CNN, FOX News, or Y!Answers, and it will slowly become more clear.
